Measurement of the low-energy antideuteron inelastic cross section

In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions at low particle momenta, covering a range of $0.3 \leq p < 4$ GeV/$c$. The measurement is carried out using p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC and utilizing the detector material as an absorber for antideuterons and antiprotons. The extracted raw primary antiparticle-to-particle ratios are compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the GEANT4 toolkit for the propagation of antiparticles through the detector material. Jet mass and substructure of inclusive jets in $ \sqrt {s} = 7\;{\text{TeV}} $ pp collisions with the ATLAS experiment

Recent studies have highlighted the potential of jet substructure techniques to identify the hadronic decays of boosted heavy particles. These studies all rely upon the assumption that the internal substructure of jets generated by QCD radiation is well understood. In this article, this assumption is tested on an inclusive sample of jets recorded with the ATLAS detector in 2010, which corresponds to 35 pb-1 of pp collisions delivered by the LHC at √s = 7TeV. In a subsample of events with single pp collisions, measurements corrected for detector efficiency and resolution are presented with full systematic uncertainties. Exploration of jet substructure using iterative declustering in pp and Pb–Pb collisions at LHC energies

The ALICE collaboration at the CERN LHC reports novel measurements of jet substructure in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$= 7 TeV and central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV. Jet substructure of track-based jets is explored via iterative declustering and grooming techniques. We present the measurement of the momentum sharing of two-prong substructure exposed via grooming, the $z_{\rm{g}}$, and its dependence on the opening angle, in both pp and Pb-Pb collisions. We also present the first measurement of the distribution of the number of branches obtained in the iterative declustering of the jet, which is interpreted as the number of its hard splittings. Relativistisissa hiukkastörmäyksissä syntyvistä suurenergisistä kvarkeista ja gluoneista, eli partoneista, muodostuvaa hyvin kollimoitunutta hiukkassuihkua kutsutaan jetiksi. Jettien tutkimusta on tehty jo vuosikaudet ja se hallitaan hyvin myös raskasionitörmäyksissä, joissa muodostuvaa kvarkkigluoniplasmaa on pystytty tutkimaan jettien liikemäärähäviöiden avulla. Tämän perusteella on huomattu, että kvarkkigluoniplasma jarruttaa sen läpi kulkevia suurenergisiä partoneita. Jettien lisäksi partonien energiahäviöitä raskasionitörmäyksessä on tutkittu myös dijettien avulla. Anaerobic on-site wastewater treatment at low temperatures

Sari Luostarinen tutki väitöstyössään hajautettua anaerobista jätevesien käsittelyä alhaisissa lämpötiloissa (10-20 °C). Anaerobinen käsittely mahdollistaa sekä jätemateriaalin stabiloinnin, uusiutuvan energian tuotannon metaanina ja/tai vetynä että arvokkaiden yhdisteiden, kuten ravinteiden, uudelleenkäytön. Luostarisen mukaan käsittely voidaan toteuttaa hajautettuna kiinteistö- tai kyläkohtaisissa prosesseissa. Mikäli ravinteiden uudelleenkäyttö ei ole mahdollista, esimerkiksi hygieniamääräyksien vuoksi, ja ravinteiden poistoa vaaditaan, se voidaan toteuttaa aerobisessa jälkikäsittelyprosessissa.
