Repeated Load Triaxial Testing of Recycled Excavation Materials Blended with Recycled Phyllite Materials

2022

Recycled Excavation Materials (REM) are becoming viable alternative construction resources due to their economic benefits. However, REM may be composed of weak rocks, e.g., phyllites, limiting the use in a base layer. The present paper attempts to further the knowledge of the mechanical performance of REM by performing Repeated Load Triaxial Tests (RLTT). REM are mixed with Recycled Phyllite Materials (RPM) in systematic blends of 0%, 25%, 50%, and 100%. The batches’ resilient modulus (MR) and permanent deformation (PD) characteristics were assessed to establish the maximum RPM allowed into REM while maintaining the required performance. Hicks and Monismith’s and Uzan’s mo…

How Can Authorities Support Distributed Improvisation During Major Crises? A Study of Decision Bottlenecks Arising During Local COVID-19 Vaccine Roll…

2022

Despite the increased importance attributed to distributed improvisation in major crises, few studies investigate how central authorities can promote a harmonic, coordinated national response while allowing for distributed autonomy and improvisation. One idea implicit in the literature is that central authorities could help track and tackle common decision bottlenecks as they emerge across “improvising” local authorities as a result of shared, dynamic external constraints. To explore this idea we map central functions needed to roll-out vaccines to local populations and identify and classify bottlenecks to decision-making by local authorities managing COVID-19 vaccine roll-out in Norway. W…

Technology and architectural heritage. Research experiences in archaeological sites / Tecnologia e patrimonio architettonico. Esperienze di ricerca s…

2014

Large body size variation is linked to low communication success in tandem running ants

2019

AbstractDiversity in animal groups is often assumed to increase group performance. In insect colonies, genetic, behavioral and morphological variation among workers can improve colony functioning and resilience. However, it has been hypothesized that during communication processes, differences between workers, e.g. in body size, could also have negative effects. Tandem running is a common recruitment strategy in ants and allows a leader to guide a nestmate follower to resources. A substantial proportion of tandem runs fail because leader and follower loose contact. Using the ant Temnothorax nylanderi as a model system, we tested the hypothesis that tandem running success is impaired if lead…

Start up e innovazione.

2013

This paper aims to better understand the role of physical activity in social durability. The empirical study concerns sport and recreational activity among inhabitants of a popular urban district. The exploration, at the same time, of gender and generational categories, shows a large discrepancy between the two groups which stops only at 60 years old. This territorial specificity, referring to European and global French data, enhances a resilience point that can support the role of the actors of sport movement in reinforcing the district social durability.

2013

By studying residential and daily mobilities of the Fontaine d'Ouche inhabitants, we seek to measure their settling in the neighborhood. By the analysis of a questionnaire which concerned 407 individuals, we will treat this issue in two ways: residential anchor and proximity movements.

2019

[EN] Researchers and practitioners in spanish spatial planning have an absence of conceptual framework to manage monitoring and evaluation processes in Spain. The aim of this work is to analyze the main theoretical frameworks related to spatial planning monitoring and evaluation. Key factors and components have been identified in order to make a preliminary conceptual framework proposal. To do that, the relevant international and national academic literature has been examined. Also the autonomous communities¿ spatial planning systems have been analyzed. The proposal highlights the importance of territorial governance. The coordination experience among territorial actors seems crucial. Furth…
