Homage to Proserpina, or: why did the charophytes of the Pergusa Lake vanish?

An important bisexual population of the charophyte Chara canescens Loisel. (Characeae, Charales, Charophyceae) was reported in the XIX century for the Pergusa Lake (Sicily). A recent field survey to check its presence revealed that it has disappeared. After a bibliographic research to understand when and why this happened, the input of freshwater from outside the basin and the introduction of the carps were identified as the two main causes for its recent extinction. Some possible management measures to try to restore the lake ecosystem are proposed.
Magnētiskie pilieni kā rīks, lai noteiktu fāžatdalītu magnētisku šķidrumu īpašību atkarību no temperatūras

Tiek apskatīti fāzatdalīu magnētisku pilienu raksturojošos parametrus - virsmas spraiguma koeficienta, magnētiskās caurlaidības un viskozitātes - atkarība no temperatūras. Magnētiskais šķidrums sastāv no mehemīta daļiņām (γ-Fe2O3), kas ir pārklātas ar citrāta joniem un ir disperģētas ūdenī. Lai ierosinātu fāžu atdalīšanos, magnētiskajam šķidrumam pievieno NaCl. Pieņemot, ka magnētisku pilienu var aprakstīt ar elipsoīdu, to raksturojošo parametru noteikšanai tiek izmantota metode, kur magnētiskie pilieni tiek izstiepti ārējā magnētiskā laukā un tiek relaksēti pēc lauka izslēgšanas. The main objective of this study was to investigate a brief 4-session intervention based on a theoretical framework of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and to explore its short- and long-term effectiveness among individuals reporting depressive symptoms. Additionally, the research aimed at further exploring the elements of psychological flexibility and mindfulness associated with improvements in depressive symptoms. Monitoring a meat-free pledge with smartphones:An experimental study

Pledges are a popular strategy to encourage meat reduction, though experimental studies of their efficacy are lacking. Three-hundred and twenty-five participants from three different countries (UK, Germany, Australia) were randomly assigned to pledge 28 days meat-free or not, and their behavior was tracked via smartphones. Participants answered daily surveys regarding their eating behavior, meat cravings, and shared photos of their meals. Baseline data was collected prior to the pledge, after the 28 days, and one-month post-intervention. Abstract.This paper addresses two aims: a) to analyze differences in the stress of parents of children and adolescents with ADHD with high and low scores on success atributes related to resilience; b) to study the relationship between these success attributes and the level of success of life satisfaction of children in different domains.
