Intramolecular pi-stacking in a phenylpyrazole-based iridium complex and its use in light-emitting electrochemical cells.

A novel iridium(III) complex, [Ir(dmppz)(2)pbpy][PF(6)] (Hdmppz = 3,5-dimethyl-1-phenylpyrazole and pbpy = 6-phenyl-(2,2'-bipyridine)), is reported. The complex shows an intramolecular face-to-face pi-stacking between the phenyl ring of the dmppz ligand and the pendant phenyl of the pbpy ligand. This interaction provides a supramolecular cage formation that holds also in the excited states. Light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) using the novel complex show extraordinary lifetimes of approximately 2000 h. Preparative, structural, and electrochemical investigations on peralkylated niobocene dichlorides and difluorides

CP(dagger)2NbCl2 (CP(dagger) = 175-C5Me4Et) (1b) was synthesized from NbCl5 and a slight excess of Cp(dagger)Li and NaBH4. Its electrochemical (2 e-, E1/2 = -1.6 V) and chemical reduction (2 equiv of Na/Hg) was studied showing that peralkylation of the Cp ligand facilitates two-electron reduction compared to less substituted CP2NbHal2 derivatives. The reduced solutions of CP*2NbCl2 (CP* = C5Me5) (1a) and of lb were shown by means of EPR spectroscopy to contain two new paramagnetic species 1A,B for which bent niobocene (A(Nb) = 100 G) and fulvene-like structures (A(Nb) = 55 G) are proposed. Spin crossover in iron(II) complexes with ferrocene-bearing triazole-pyridine ligands.

In the search for new multifunctional spin crossover molecular materials, here we describe the synthesis, crystal structures and magnetic and photomagnetic properties of the complexes trans-[Fe(Fctzpy)2(NCX)2]·CHCl3 where Fc-tzpy is the ferrocene-appended ligand 4-(2-pyridyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol- 1-ylferrocene, X = S (1) and X = Se (2). Both complexes display thermal- and light-induced (LIESST) spin crossover properties characterised by T1/2 = 85 and 168 K, ΔS = 55 and 66 J K−1 mol−1 , ΔH = 4.7 and 11.1 kJ mol−1 and TLIESST = 47 K and 39 K for 1 and 2 respectively. A novel cobalt(II) complex of formula [Co2(cbut)(H 2O)3]n (1) (H4cbut = 1,2,3,4-cyclobutanetetracarboxylic acid) has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and its crystal structure has been determined by means of synchrotron radiation and neutron powder diffraction. The crystal structure of 1 consists of layers of cobalt(II) ions extending in the bc-plane which are pillared along the crystallographic a-axis through the skeleton of the cbut 4- ligand. Unprecedented heptacopper(ii) cluster with body-centred anti-prismatic topology. Structure, magnetism and density functional study

Using a (2-pyridyl)ethylamine-appended carboxylate ligand a new cluster [Cu(II)(7)(L)(4)(μ(3)-OH)(2)(H(2)O)(2)(DMF)(2)][ClO(4)](4)·4H(2)O (1) [L(2-): N-{CH(2)CH(2)(2-pyridyl)}(CH(2)CH(2)CO(2))(2)] is synthesized, as a result of 'coordination-driven self-assembly'. The structure of 1 is unique and consists of a centrosymmetric carboxylato- and hydroxo-bridged heptanuclear copper(II) cation, with body-centred anti-prismatic topology. The four crystallographically independent copper(II) centres differ markedly in their coordination geometry. Impact of the synergistic collaboration of oligothiophene bridges and ruthenium complexes on the optical properties of dumbbell-shaped compounds.

The linear and non-linear optical properties of a family of dumbbell-shaped dinuclear complexes, in which an oligothiophene chain with various numbers of rings (1, 3, and 6) acts as a bridge between two homoleptic tris(2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) complexes, have been fully investigated by using a range of spectroscopic techniques (absorption and luminescence, transient absorption, Raman, and non-linear absorption), together with density functional theory calculations. Abstract The new unusual polymeric copper(II) complex with nicotinate N-oxide (N-nicO), [Cu3(N-nicO)4(OH)2(H2O)2]n was prepared and its crystal and molecular structure was determined from three-dimensional X-ray diffraction data. The crystals belong to the triclinic space group P 1 (No. 2). The cell parameters are a = 7.881(9), b = 9.658(11), c = 10.368(12) A, α = 97.32(9), β = 110.38(9), γ = 109.53(9)°, V = 670(1) A3, dobs = 1.94 (dcalc = 2.02) and Z = 1. The structure was refined to a final R-value of 4.13%. Abstract The aim of this paper is to look for a better knowledge of the behaviour of bent tantalocenes that bear hydrides, phosphorus PR2X (R=Me, Ph; X=H, lone pair) and cyclopentadienyl (Cp=C5H5, Cp′=C5H2tBu(Me)2, Cp*=C5Me5) ligands. An orbital control of regioselectivity of insertion of the PR2 phosphide fragment of chlorophosphines PR2Cl into the central TaH bond of trihydrides Cp2TaH3 leading to the formation of metallophosphonium cations is discussed. Synthesis, structure and biological properties of several binary and ternary complexes of copper(II) with ciprofloxacin and 1,10 phenanthroline

In this study, a new binary complex [Cu(HCip) 2 ](NO 3 ) 2  · 6H 2 O ( 1 ) has been synthesized and then characterized by X-ray structure analyses. In this compound, each ciprofloxacin acts as a bidentate ligand resulting in a crystallographically planar configuration; the nitrate anions are located in apical positions with an axial distance significantly larger than the equatorial distances, which would be consistent with a very weak metal ion interaction due to the Jahn–Teller effect.
