Role of preoperative CT angiography with multimodality imaging reconstruction to perform laparoscopic Complete Mesocolic Excision (CME) and Central V…
2022
Background: The concept of complete mesocolic excision (CME) and central vascular ligation (CVL) in right colonic resections appears to improve the oncological outcomes. The highest rate of complications reported in the literature in patients undergoing CME is related to difficult surgical manuevers and intraoperative bleeding due to the central vascular dissection. Methods: We used preoperative findings obtained with the CT angiography, multiplanar reformation (MPR), maximum intesity projection (MIP) and 3D volume rendering (VR) technique to verify if this preoperative radiological assessment had significant benefits regarding the difficulty of dissection of the embryological planes, the i…
A multilocus technique for risk evaluation of patients with neuroblastoma.
2011
Abstract Purpose: Precise and comprehensive analysis of neuroblastoma genetics is essential for accurate risk evaluation and only pangenomic/multilocus approaches fulfill the present-day requirements. We present the establishment and validation of the PCR-based multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) technique for neuroblastoma. Experimental Design: A neuroblastoma-specific MLPA kit was designed by the SIOP Europe Neuroblastoma Biology Committee in cooperation with MRC-Holland. The contained target sequences cover 19 chromosomal arms and reference loci. Validation was performed by single locus and pangenomic techniques (n = 174). Dilution experiments for determination of min…
Le pharmacien et le consentement éclairé
2021
During the implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination, the issue of consent was widely commented upon. Many confusions arose between the withdrawal period, the obligation to collect written consent and many other more or less fanciful concepts. Informed consent is one of the founding stones of health democracy. It deserves to be understood in order to be intelligently applied.
Exon deletions of the phenylalanine hydroxylase gene in Italian hyperphenylalaninemics
2009
A consistent finding of many studies describing the spectrum of mutant phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) alleles underlying hyperphenylalaninemia is the impossibility of achieving a 100% mutation ascertainment rate using conventional gene-scanning methods. These methods include denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), denaturing high performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC), and direct sequencing. In recent years, it has been shown that a significant proportion of undetermined alleles consist of large deletions overlapping one or more exons. These deletions have been difficult to detect in compound heterozygotes using gene-scanning methods due to a masking effect of the non-deleted al…
The Educational Construction of a Social Person and the Unexpected Development of a Human Being
2008
The phenomenon of migratory flows, always present in human history, is today analyzed in such a way as to define a boundary, an us and a them. From the point of view of the host society, the problem is seen in terms of the legitimate conditions of “entry”. But in actual fact, migratory flow modifies the social composition of the political community and therefore could lead to the obligation of also observing phenomena from the migrant’s point of view.
Postpartum Hemorrhage: Conservative Treatments
2023
Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is an obstetric emergency representing the first cause of obstetric mortality and a frequent cause of severe maternal morbidity. It can complicate vaginal or cesarean deliveries and accounts for 25% of all maternal deaths worldwide, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO). Primary PPH is defined as blood loss from the genital tract of at least 500 ml after vaginal or 1000 ml following cesarean delivery within 24 h postpartum, whereas secondary PPH is defined as any significant bleeding from the birth canal occurring between 24 h and 12 weeks postnatally. Uterine atony is reported as the main cause of PPH and accounts for 75%–90% of primary PPH. When ut…
Norma de reconocimiento, convención y obligación. Aquello que Shapiro todavía puede aprender de los errores de Hart
2021
Shapiro works out a version of legal positivism taking as its starting point Hart’s practice theory of law. Some serious limits of Hart’s practice theory of norms concern the conception of legal obligation and normativity of law. In this paper I analyze the limits of Hart’s conception of legal normativity and I appraise whether the planning theory of law indicates the correct direction for overcoming them. To anticipate the conclusion, my effort is to show that Shapiro replicates Hart’s mistakes on this subject-matters. The paper is divided in three main sections. First, I will present briefly a critical reconstruction of Hart’s conception of normativity, reconstruction which is partially d…
Efficacy and Obligation
1995
In spite of their differences, most modern legal theories seem to accept a common necessary (but not sufficient) condition for the existence of a legal system (LS). A system of rules is an LS only if it is generally efficacious and performs certain social functions. There is, however, no agreement on the definition of efficacy or on the nature of relevant social functions.
In Situ Detection of Phosphorylated Platelet-derived Growth Factor Receptor β Using a Generalized Proximity Ligation Method
2007
Improved methods are needed for in situ characterization of post-translational modifications in cell lines and tissues. For example, it is desirable to monitor the phosphorylation status of individual receptor tyrosine kinases in samples from human tumors treated with inhibitors to evaluate therapeutic responses. Unfortunately the leading methods for observing the dynamics of tissue post-translational modifications in situ, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, exhibit limited sensitivity and selectivity. Proximity ligation assay is a novel method that offers improved selectivity through the requirement of dual recognition and increased sensitivity by including DNA amplification as a…
