Does airlines’ eco-friendliness matter? Customer satisfaction towards an environmentally responsible airline
2022
The looming climate crisis requires an immediate response, also on an individual level. Consumers are being asked to reduce and replace their carbon-intensive consumption behaviors. One of the consumption behaviors with the largest impact is air travel. The growing awareness among consumers has led to the advent of flight shaming, which could seriously endanger airlines' existing business models. One way for airlines to respond to this threat is by becoming more eco-friendly. We therefore wanted to study whether the environmental responsibility of an airline could be positively associated with customer satisfaction and whether that could translate into more customer loyalty towards an eco-f…

A Conceptual Model for the IT-supported International Subsidiary Establishment Process
2004
This study examines how the IT-supported international subsidiary establishment process can be implemented. An in-depth literature review uncovered that there is a significant lack of literature to guide managers about how to execute the establishment process of a subsidiary through the support of various IT-tools. This study, by answering the research question “What are the phases in the establishment of a subsidiary through IT-support and how have the phases been executed?” introduces a conceptual model for the IT-supported international subsidiary establishment process. The research findings are useful for both practice and further research. peerReviewed
Older Age Increases the Amplitude of Muscle Stretch-Induced Cortical Beta-Band Suppression But Does not Affect Rebound Strength
2020
Healthy aging is associated with deterioration of the sensorimotor system, which impairs balance and somatosensation. However, the exact age-related changes in the cortical processing of sensorimotor integration are unclear. This study investigated primary sensorimotor cortex (SM1) oscillations in the 15–30 Hz beta band at rest and following (involuntary) rapid stretches to the triceps surae muscles (i.e., proprioceptive stimulation) of young and older adults. A custom-built, magnetoencephalography (MEG)-compatible device was used to deliver rapid (190°·s−1) ankle rotations as subjects sat passively in a magnetically-shielded room while MEG recorded their cortical signals. Eleven young (age…

Venäläiset naisjärjestöt ja feminismi
2008
Tutkimuksessani tarkastelen nk. venäläistä kansalaisyhteiskuntaa (eng. civil society), jonka moderni syntyhistoria ajoittuu 1990-luvun alkupuoliskolle. On huomattava, ettei akateemisessa keskustelussa vallitse yksimielisyyttä koko ilmiön olemassaolosta Venäjällä: omassa työssäni viittaan termillä kansalaisten itsensä organisoimaan yhdistystoimintaan, erotuksena Neuvostoliiton perinteitä jatkavista valtion valvomista ja holhoamista massajärjestöistä. Tarkasteluni eivät kuitenkaan keskity koko yhdistystoiminnan laajaan kirjoon, vaan suuntaan katseeni kommunismin jälkeisen Venäjän naisjärjestöihin, nk. uuteen venäläiseen naisliikkeeseen. Työni naistutkimuksellinen aspekti nousee tutkimuskysymy…
UAV-Aided Secure Short-Packet Data Collection and Transmission
2023
Benefiting from the deployment flexibility and the line-of-sight (LoS) channel conditions, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has gained tremendous attention in data collection for wireless sensor networks. However, the high-quality air-ground channels also pose significant threats to the security of UAV aided wireless networks. In this paper, we propose a short-packet secure UAV-aided data collection and transmission scheme to guarantee the freshness and security of the transmission from the sensors to the remote ground base station (BS). First, during the data collection phase, the trajectory, the flight duration, and the user scheduling are jointly optimized with the objective of maximizing t…
Prediction of active peak force using a multilayer perceptron
2017
Both kinematic parameters and ground reaction forces (GRFs) are necessary for understanding the biomechanics of running. Kinematic information of a runner is typically measured by a motion capture system whereas GRF during the support phase of running is measured by force platforms. To analyze both kinematics and kinetics of a runner over several subsequent contacts, an instrumented treadmill or alternatively several force platforms installed over a regulated space are available options, but they are highly immovable, expensive, and sometimes even impractical options. Naturally, it would be highly useful to predict GRFs using a motion capture system only and this way reduce costs and comple…
Experimental snapshot verification of non-Markovianity by quantum probing of convex coefficients
2022
We apply the recently proposed quantum probing protocols with an unknown system-probe coupling to probe the convex coefficients in mixtures of commuting states. By using two reference states instead of one as originally suggested, we are able to probe both the lower and upper bounds for the convex coefficient. We perform extensive analysis for the roles of the parameters characterizing the double peaked Gaussian frequency spectrum in the Markovian-to-non-Markovian transition of the polarization dynamics of a single photon. We apply the probing of the convex coefficient to the transition-inducing frequency parameter and show that the non-Markovianity of the polarization dynamics can be confi…
