New Voices from Intersecting Identities Among International Students Around the World
2022
In this article, we introduce our special issue, “International students’ lived experiences in the era unprecedented uncertainty and challenges: New voices from intersectional identities.” Our motivation and intention for this special issue, the focus, and the overall methodological approach are discussed. In addition to presenting the contributions of each article to this issue, we also discuss what we (all authors of this special issue) try to talk and how our voices are reflecting our unique experiences of coming to the new counties and leaving where we lived as international students by unfolding our stories and multiple identities that are intersecting while we experienced.
Tehtaiden varjoista tehtaiden varjoihin : bourdieulainen näkökulma sosiaalisesta liikkuvuudesta ja resurssien jakautumisesta Lievestuoreella
2009
Tutkielmassani tarkastelen sosiaalista liikkuvuutta resurssien epätasaisen jakautumisen näkökulmasta. Tutkielman teoreettinen viitekehys perustuu Pierre Bourdieun muotoilemaan teoriaan, jonka mukaan todellisuus ei ole samalla tavoin auki, eri asemista tuleville, vaan riippuvainen tietyssä yhteiskunnallisessa viitekehyksessä syntyneistä pääomista. Sukupolvien välistä sosiaalista liikkuvuutta tutkin selvittämällä, millä todennäköisyydellä ammattiasema on periytynyt vanhemmalta lapselle. Lisäksi tutkin, miten eri asemissa olevilla toimijoilla on käytössään taloudellisia, sosiaalisia ja kulttuurisia pääomia, ja miten nämä pääomat riippuvat perhetaustasta. Taustaoletukseni on, että yhteiskunta t…
From Mobile Crimes to Crimes of Mobility
2020
Piipponen, Mäntymäki and Rodi-Risberg suggest that many contemporary crime narratives across the globe host a heightened interest in diverse and ambiguous mobilities, border crossings and borderlands. They propose that such mobilities and crossings reflect on recent sociocultural developments on local and global levels and communicate specific geopolitical anxieties. They position their own mobilities research perspective within existing crime fiction scholarship, especially within the so-called transnational and spatial turns. Introducing some key observations of mobilities research, they suggest that mobility can be considered both as an object of study in its own right and a critical len…

Validity and feasibility of remote measurement systems for functional movement and posture assessments in people with axial spondylarthritis
2022
Introduction: This study aimed to estimate the criterion validity of functional movement and posture measurement using remote technology systems in people with and without Axial spondylarthritis (axSpA). Methods: Validity and agreement of the remote-technology measurement of functional movement and posture were tested cross-sectionally and compared to a standard clinical measurement by a physiotherapist. The feasibility of remote implementation was tested in a home environment. There were two cohorts of participants: people with axSpA and people without longstanding back pain. In addition, a cost-consequence analysis was performed. Results: Sixty-two participants (31 with axSPA, 53% female,…
Lower thoracic spine extension mobility is associated with higher intensity of thoracic spine pain
2022
Objectives: To evaluate the association of thoracic spine (TS) posture and mobility with TS pain. Methods: Participants with TS pain reported maximum, average, and night pain in TS area, and pain summary score was calculated. Upright and sitting TS postures were evaluated by inspection. TS posture and mobility (flexion and extension) were recorded using an inclinometer and a tape measure, respectively. Correlations between posture and mobility assessments were calculated using Spearman rank correlation, the association of TS posture and mobility with TS pain by logistic regression analysis. Results: The participants’ (n = 73, 52 females, age range 22–56) TS pain duration was 12 weeks on ave…
This article focuses on the life trajector…

Effects of a home-based, exergaming intervention on physical function and pain after total knee replacement in older adults : a randomised controlled…
2023
ObjectivesTo investigate the effects of 4 months of customised, home-based exergaming on physical function and pain after total knee replacement (TKR) compared with standard exercise protocol.MethodsIn this non-blinded randomised controlled trial, 52 individuals aged 60–75 years undergoing TKR were randomised into an exergaming (intervention group, IG) or a standard exercising group (control group, CG). Primary outcomes were physical function and pain measured before and after (2 months and 4 months) surgery using the Oxford Knee Score (OKS) and Timed Up and Go (TUG) test. Secondary outcomes included measures of the Visual Analogue Scale, 10m walking, short physical performance battery, iso…
