Urheilumenestyksen tarkastelussa painopiste on ollut maittain toteutetussa joukkueiden, seurojen ja yksilöurheilijoiden menestyksen vertailussa. Sen sijaan paikkakuntien urheilumenestystä on tutkimuksissa vertailtu vähemmän. Tutkimuksessa jäljitettiin millaista menestystä varkautelaiset urheilijat saavuttivat 1960-luvulla ja mitkä tekijät vaikuttivat paikalliseen urheilumenestykseen? Varkautelainen urheilumenestys suhteutettiin 11 muuhun vastaavankokoiseen kaupunkiin. Tutkimuksemme sijoittuu historiallis-sosiologisen tapaus- ja rakennetutkimuksen piiriin. Sport and civil society in the Nordic region

This paper examines the key elements within the relationships of sport and civil society in Scandinavia. The analysis combines themes and developments in Nordic sport and civil society, such as the role of the welfare state and the impacts of neoliberalism, with consideration of specific national experiences, especially in Finland. The discussion has four main parts. First, we set out the principal features of the ‘Nordic model’ of society, and how it shapes sport and civil society relations. Second, we advance a Finnish case study, examining the historical connections of three sectors to the national sport culture. Identity tensions in dual career : the discursive construction of future selves by female Finnish judo athletes

To date, few studies have explored how changes in the practices, policies, and politics of sport and education may be implicated in how young athletes think about and plan for the future. Drawing on cultural praxis and feminist poststructuralist frameworks, this paper explores whether and how dual career (DC) policies and practices in Finland guide female judo athletes’ imaginings about their future. Discourse analysis was used to analyse interviews with three adolescent (aged 16) and three young adult (aged 20, 23, and 27) elite female judo athletes. Lahden Salpausselällä on pitkät perinteet pohjoismaisten hiihtolajien kilpailuareenana. Pohjoismaisten hiihtolajien MM-kilpailut on järjestetty siellä yhteensä seitsemän kertaa seitsemällä eri vuosikymmenellä. Lisäksi Lahdessa on kilpailtu vuosittain pohjoismaisten hiihtolajien maailmancupin osakilpailut, Salpausselän kisat. Kumpaakaan näistä tapahtumista ei oltaisi voitu järjestää vuosien saatossa ilman sitoutuneiden ja kokeneiden vapaaehtoisten joukkoa. The aim of this study is to increase understanding of football’s global and local contexts. More specifically, the development paths of Finnish and Hungarian football are explored and compared in four research articles from different perspectives within a global framework. Polkujuoksu : juoksuharrastus kohtaa luontokokemuksen

Juoksuharrastuksesta eriytynyt polkujuoksu on suosiotaan vahvasti 2010-luvulla kasvattanut liikuntamuoto. Käsillä oleva tutkimus on ensimmäinen suomalaista polkujuoksuharrastusta kartoittava liikuntasosiologinen tutkimus. Polkujuoksuharrastusta taustoitetaan teoreettisesti vapaa-ajan elämäntavan, luontoliikunnan sekä kestävyysliikunnan ilmiönä. Tutkimukselle on asetettu neljä tutkimuskysymystä: 1) Ketkä harrastavat polkujuoksua? 2) Miten polkujuoksua harrastetaan? 3) Kuinka kiinnittyneitä polkujuoksun harrastajat ovat harrastukseensa? 4) Miten polkujuoksijat haluaisivat liikuntamuodon kehittyvän?
