Input-Output Feedback Linearization Control of a Linear Induction Motor Taking Into Consideration Its Dynamic End-Effects and Iron Losses

This article proposes a new input-output feedback linearization control (FLC) technique of linear induction motors (LIMs), taking into consideration both the dynamic end-effects and the iron losses. Starting from a previously conceived dynamic model, including the dynamic end-effects and the iron losses, all the theoretical framework of the FLC has been developed. The proposed FLC improves a previous version of FLC in accounting also the iron losses, which in LIMs with fixed-secondary sheet play a pivotal role more than in rotating induction motors (RIMs). H∞ fuzzy control of DC-DC converters with input constraint

A polynomial algorithm solving a special class of hybrid optimal control problems

Hybrid optimal control problems are, in general, difficult to solve. A current research goal is to isolate those problems that lead to tractable solutions [5]. In this paper, we identify a special class of hybrid optimal control problems which are easy to solve. We do this by using a paradigm borrowed from the Operations Research field. As main result, we present a solution algorithm that converges to the exact solution in polynomial time. NARX Models of an Industrial Power Plant Gas Turbine

This brief reports the experience with the identification of a nonlinear autoregressive with exogenous inputs (NARX) model for the PGT10B1 power plant gas turbine manufactured by General Electric-Nuovo Pignone. Two operating conditions of the turbine are considered: isolated mode and nonisolated mode. The NARX model parameters are estimated iteratively with a Gram-Schmidt procedure, exploiting both forward and stepwise regression. Nonlinear control of an activated sludge aeration process: use of fuzzy techniques for tuning PID controllers

In this paper, several tuning algorithms, specifically ITAE, IMC and Cohen and Coon, were applied in order to tune an activated sludge aeration PID controller. Performance results of these controllers were compared by simulation with those obtained by using a nonlinear fuzzy PID controller. In order to design this controller, a trial and error procedure was used to determine, as a function of error at current time and at a previous time, sets of parameters (including controller gain, integral time and derivative time) which achieve satisfactory response of a PID controller actuating over the aeration process. Nonlinear Control of a Pneumatic Muscle Actuator System

Abstract The performance of a Pneumatic Muscle Actuator under three tracking control strategies is compared: robust backstepping, sliding-mode and gain scheduling. Robustness is assured for the three controllers in the presence of model uncertainties and external perturbations. Exponential stability is proved for the sliding-mode tracking controller, ultimate boundedness for the backstepping tracking controller and exponential stability for constant or slowly-varying reference signals for the gain scheduling controller. Objective function design for robust optimality of linear control under state-constraints and uncertainty

We consider a model for the control of a linear network flow system with unknown but bounded demand and polytopic bounds on controlled flows. We are interested in the problem of finding a suitable objective function that makes robust optimal the policy represented by the so-called linear saturated feedback control. We regard the problem as a suitable differential game with switching cost and study it in the framework of the viscosity solutions theory for Bellman and Isaacs equations. © 2009 EDP Sciences, SMAI.

Linear-non-linear digital control for dc/dc converters with fast transient response

A linear-non-linear digital control for multi-module DC/DC converters that improves system stability, solves the limit-cycle problem, reduces recovery time and limits over- and under-shoots in regulated output voltage, is presented. A simulation model in Matlab-Simulink/Active-HDL mixed environment is described. Preliminary hardware tests on a single-phase step-down converter are reported. Simulation and experimental results are shown.

Hidden oscillations in nonlinear control systems

Abstract The method of harmonic linearization, numerical methods, and the applied bifurcation theory together discover new opportunities for analysis of hidden oscillations of control systems. In the present paper new analytical-numerical algorithm for hidden oscillation localization is discussed. Counterexamples construction to Aizerman's conjecture and Kalman's conjecture on absolute stability of control systems are considered.
