The Importance of Lipidomic Approach for Mapping and Exploring the Molecular Networks Underlying Physical Exercise: A Systematic Review
2021
Maintaining appropriate levels of physical exercise is an optimal way for keeping a good state of health. At the same time, optimal exercise performance necessitates an integrated organ system response. In this respect, physical exercise has numerous repercussions on metabolism and function of different organs and tissues by enhancing whole-body metabolic homeostasis in response to different exercise-related adaptations. Specifically, both prolonged and intensive physical exercise produce vast changes in multiple and different lipid-related metabolites. Lipidomic technologies allow these changes and adaptations to be clarified, by using a biological system approach they provide scientific u…

LIPIDOMICS OF HUMAN SKIN FIBROBLASTS IN NEIMANN-PICK DISEASE TYPE C
2013
Neimann-Pick Disease type C is a hereditary lysosomal storage disease due to mutations of the NPC1 or NPC2 genes. The products of these genes encodes for components of a lysosomal machinery that transport different kinds of lipids across the lysosomal membrane. The main abnormalities of NPC1 de ciency phenotype is the accumulation of free cholesterol (FC) and sphingolipids (GL) in brain, liver and other organs cells. Neurodegeneration and hepato-splenomegaly are common ndings. The NPC disease, in his severe onset, leads to a precocious exitus, though the inhibition of glyco-SL synthesis by miglustat has shown some clinical bene t. Recently the physiopathological mechanism has been partly el…
Untargeted metabolomics of fresh and heat treatment Tiger nut ( Cyperus esculentus L. ) milks reveals further insight into food quality and nutrition
2017
Tiger nut (Cyperus esculentus L.) is a crop traditionally grown in Valencia Region (Spain) and other temperate and tropical regions in the world, where its tubers are commonly consumed as tiger nut milk (horchata). Because of their nutritive potential and original taste, these products are beginning to spread internationally and, as consequence, analytical procedures to assess nutritional profiles, quality control issues are acquiring increasing relevance. The main objective of this study was to use an advance analytical method and chemometrics tools to determine if the ultra-high temperature (UHT) treatment necessary to extend the shelf life of tiger nut milk would affect the profile of nu…
Plasma lipidome patterns associated with cardiovascular risk in the PREDIMED trial: A case-cohort study.
2017
Abstract Background The study of the plasma lipidome may help to better characterize molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease. The identification of new lipid biomarkers could provide future targets for prevention and innovative therapeutic approaches. In the frame of the PREDIMED trial, our aim was to examine the associations of baseline lipidome patterns or their changes with the risk of clinical CVD events. Methods We included 983 participants in our case-cohort study. The end-point was the incidence of major CVD during 4.8years of median follow-up. We repeatedly measured 202 plasma known lipid metabolites at baseline and after 1-year of intervention. Principal component an…
Long‐term molecular differences between resilient and susceptible mice after a single traumatic exposure
2022
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a heterogeneous disorder induced by trauma, resulting in severe long-term impairments of an individual's mental health. PTSD does not develop in every individual and, thus, some individuals are more resilient. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, we aimed to elucidate these processes. We used a single-trauma PTSD model in mice to induce long-term maladaptive behaviours and profiled the mice 4 weeks after trauma into resilient or susceptible individuals. The classification of phenotype was based on individual responses in different behavioural experiments. We analysed microbiome, circulating endocannabinoids, and lo…

Age-associated changes in circulatory fatty acids: new insights on adults and long-lived individuals
2022
Long-lived individuals (LLIs) are considered an ideal model to study healthy human aging. Blood fatty acid (FA) profile of a cohort of LLIs (90–111 years old, n = 49) from Sicily was compared to adults (18–64 years old, n = 69) and older adults (65–89 years old, n = 54) from the same area. Genetic variants in key enzymes related to FA biosynthesis and metabolism were also genotyped to investigate a potential genetic predisposition in determining the FA profile. Gas chromatography was employed to determine the FA profile, and genotyping was performed using high-resolution melt (HRM) analysis. Blood levels of total polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) and total trans-FA decreased with age, while the lev…
