Lithium isotopes beyond the drip line

The unbound isotopes 10Li, 12Li and 13Li have been observed after nucleon-knockout reactions at relativistic energies with 11Li and 14Be beams impinging on a liquid hydrogen target. The channels , and were analysed in the ALADIN-LAND setup at GSI. The 10Li data confirm earlier findings, while the 12Li and 13Li nuclei were observed for the first time. The relative-energy spectrum shows that the ground state of 12Li can be described as a virtual s-state with a scattering length of -13.7(1.6) fm. A broad energy spectrum was found for the channel. Abstract Structural-hydraulic tests of the European Isotope Separation On-Line (EURISOL) neutron converter target mock-up, named MErcury Target EXperiment 1 (METEX 1), have been conducted by Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI, Switzerland) in cooperation with Institute of Physics of the University of Latvia (IPUL, Latvia). A high power liquid hydrogen target for the Mainz A4 parity violation experiment

We present a new powerful liquid hydrogen target developed for the precise study of parity violating electron scattering on hydrogen and deuterium. This target has been designed to have minimal target density fluctuations under the heat load of a 20$\mu$A CW 854.3 MeV electron beam without rastering the electron beam. The target cell has a wide aperture for scattered electrons and is axially symmetric around the beam axis. The construction is optimized to intensify heat exchange by a transverse turbulent mixing in the hydrogen stream, which is directed along the electron beam. Gamow-Teller transitions in theA=40isoquintet of relevance for neutrino captures inAr40

Background: The Gamow-Teller response of $^{40}\mathrm{Ar}$ is important for the use of liquid argon as a medium for neutrino detection. An ambiguity about the Gamow-Teller strength for the excitation of ${1}^{+}$ states at 2290 and 2730 keV in $^{40}\mathrm{K}$ results in a significant uncertainty for neutrino capture rates. An experimental study of the antineutron-light nucleus annihilation at 1.4 GeV/c

The heavy liquid bubble chamber, Gargamelle, has been used to investigate the gross features of the annihilation of antineutrons in light nuclei (mainly Carbon). Results are presented on the distributions of multiplicity, momentum and emission angle for charged pions and protons together with a simple model to describe them.

Gain stabilization and noise minimization for SiPMs at cryogenic temperatures

Abstract The performance of solid-state photon detectors such as avalanche photodiodes or silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) is strongly affected by temperature. Important device characteristics for the detection of low light levels or single photons are photon detection efficiency, dark noise, and gain. In the present work the C-series SiPMs from SensL was characterized in cryogenic environments. At 77  K the SiPMs proved to be an excellent choice for single photon detection and an operation point with minimum noise contributions was found. At 4  K the performance was degraded, exhibiting a smaller gain and a larger noise.

Streuung von 50 keV-Elektronen an flüssigem Helium

The behaviour of liquid helium in relation to electron-scattering has been investigated. Electrons of 50 keV have been scattered by thin targets of liquid helium with temperatures between 1.34 and 2.15 K. The thickness of targets was chosen between 0.047 and 0.62 mm. The angular distribution and the energy loss of the scattered electrons have been measured in dependence on the thickness of layer and on temperature. The extrapolated range of electrons in liquid helium has been determined.
