Fermi Liquid with Fermion Condensate

Here we discuss the general properties of FCQPT leading to the emergence of FC. We present a microscopic derivation of the main equations of FC, and show that Fermi systems with FC form an entirely new class of Fermi liquids with its own topological structure, protecting the FC state. We construct the phase diagram, and explore the order parameter of these systems. We show that the fermion condensate has a strong impact on the observable physical properties of systems, where it is realized, up to relatively high temperatures of a few tens kelvin. Metals with a Strongly Correlated Electron Liquid

In this chapter, we consider the main properties of strongly correlated Fermi systems, which are formed by the fermion condensate leading to the emergence of flat bands. Namely, we consider the residual entropy \(S_0\) related to the flat bands that leads to the violation of the quasiparticle—hole symmetry. The presence of \(S_0\) has a profound impact on the universality of second order phase transitions. In that case under the application of magnetic field the curve of the second order AF phase transitions passes into a curve of the first order ones at the tricritical point, thus leading to a violation of the critical universality of the fluctuation theory. Transition to ballistic regime for heat transport in helium II

The size-dependent and flux-dependent effective thermal conductivity of narrow capillaries filled with superfluid helium is analyzed from a thermodynamic continuum perspective. The classical Landau evaluation of the effective thermal conductivity of quiescent superfluid, or the Gorter-Mellinck regime of turbulent superfluids, are extended to describe the transition to ballistic regime in narrow channels wherein the radius $R$ is comparable to (or smaller than) the phonon mean-free path $\ell$ in superfluid helium. Photochemistry of 3,6-bis(styryl)pyridazines in solution and in neat liquid crystalline phase—optical switching and imaging techniques

Abstract 3,6-Bis(styryl)pyridazines 1a – f with 2–6 alkoxy groups show on irradiation in solution a stereoisomerization which leads to a photostationary state of ( E , E )- and ( E , Z )-isomer. Sensitizing and quenching experiments reveal that the ( E , E )→( E , Z ) route is a pure triplet process, whereas the ( E , Z )→( E , E ) route can have a minor singlet by-reaction. Hexyloxy or dodecyloxy chains on the terminal benzene rings convey the ( E , E )-isomers of compounds 1a , b , d – f thermotropic liquid crystalline properties. Influence of crystal defects on the electromigration of the hydrogen in palladium

Abstract Electromigration and diffusion of hydrogen in palladium defected through quenching to liquid nitrogen temperature were investigated. It was found that the obtained experimental results cannot be described by means of a single flux of hydrogen which diffuses in a gradient of electric field. In order to effectively explain the obtained results, a theoretical model was elaborated. It assumed the existence of the following two fluxes of hydrogen in the quenched metal: • Ji—of migration, according to the interstitial mechanism, and • Ji–d—of migration, according to the interstitial-defective mechanism. On the operation of silicon photomultipliers at temperatures of 1–4 kelvin

Abstract SiPM operation at cryogenic temperatures fails for many common devices. A particular type from Zecotek with deep channels in the silicon substrate instead of quenching resistors was tested at liquid helium temperature. Two similar types were thoroughly characterized from room temperature down to liquid nitrogen temperature by illuminating them with low light levels. At cryogenic temperatures the SiPMs show an unchanged rise-time and a fast recovery time, practically no after-pulses, and exhibit no increased cross-talk probability. Transintestinal secretion of ciprofloxacin, grepafloxacin and sparfloxacin: in vitro and in situ inhibition studies.

The influence of the secretion process on the absorption of ciprofloxacin, grepafloxacin and sparfloxacin has been evaluated by means of inhibition studies. Two well known P-glycoprotein inhibitors (cyclosporine, verapamil), a mixed inhibitor of P-glycoprotein and the organic cation transporter OCT1 (quinidine) and a well established MRP substrate (p-aminohipuric acid) have been selected in order to distinguish the possible carriers implicated. An in situ rat gut perfusion model and CACO-2 permeability studies are used. Both methods suggest the involvement of several types of efflux transporters for every fluoroquinolone. Supramolecular hierarchy among halogen and hydrogen bond donors in light-induced surface patterning

Halogen bonding, a noncovalent interaction possessing several unique features compared to the more familiar hydrogen bonding, is emerging as a powerful tool in functional materials design. Herein, we unambiguously show that one of these characteristic features, namely high directionality, renders halogen bonding the interaction of choice when developing azobenzene-containing supramolecular polymers for light-induced surface patterning. Age-dependent regulation of antioxidant genes by p38α MAPK in the liver

p38α is a redox sensitive MAPK activated by pro-inflammatory cytokines and environmental, genotoxic and endoplasmic reticulum stresses. The aim of this work was to assess whether p38α controls the antioxidant defense in the liver, and if so, to elucidate the mechanism(s) involved and the age-related changes. For this purpose, we used liver-specific p38α-deficient mice at two different ages: young-mice (4 months-old) and old-mice (24 months-old). The liver of young p38α knock-out mice exhibited a decrease in GSH levels and an increase in GSSG/GSH ratio and malondialdehyde levels.
