Determination of 60 Migrant Substances in Plastic Food Contact Materials by Vortex-Assisted Liquid-Liquid Extraction and GC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS

2021

A GC-HRMS analytical method for the determination of 60 migrant substances, including aldehydes, ketones, phthalates and other plasticizers, phenol derivatives, acrylates, and methacrylates, in plastic food contact materials (FCM) has been developed and validated. The proposed method includes migration tests, according to Commission Regulation (EU) 10/2011, using four food simulants (A, B, C, and D1), followed by vortex-assisted liquid–liquid extraction (VA-LLE) and GC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS analysis in selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode, with a resolving power of 30,000 FWHM and a mass accuracy ≤5 ppm. The method was validated, showing satisfactory linearity (R2 ≥ 0.98 from 40 to 400 …

Apparatus for synthesizing and separating synthesis products e.g. gaseous and liquid phases on bed, maintains heavier liquid phase at lower portion o…

2013

NOVELTY - The apparatus has header that is set to make the heavier and lighter liquid phases flow along outer side surface of a third tube (8) as far as first closure element (13). The third tube is provided with second side openings for directly connecting the first and second meatus. The heavier liquid phase is maintained at lower portion of the first meatus due to gravity and lighter liquid phase is maintained at upper portion of the first meatus until the liquid phases fall into a fourth tube (9). The heavier liquid phase is collectible through a collection hole (12). USE - Apparatus e.g. reactor/separator for synthesizing and separating synthesis products e.g. gaseous phase and heavier…

Multinuclear and Solid State NMR of Gels

2020

Over the past six decades, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy has been an integral part of synthetic organic and organometallic chemistry, as well as biochemistry. Beyond solution state experiments, increasing developments have opened new avenues to study materials in their solid state. Between two extremes (i.e., solution and solid), there exist several other forms of materials, especially soft materials such as gels and liquid crystals. Traditionally gels have been studied using solution state NMR spectroscopic methods. However, the viscosity of complex viscoelastic fluids such as gels affects the molecular tumbling, which in turn affects the chemical shift anisotropy and dipolar and…

Supramolecular Hydro- and Ionogels: A Study of Their Properties and Antibacterial Activity.

2017

Diimidazolium-based organic salts, bearing peptides or amino acids as anions have been synthesised and tested for their gelling ability in biocompatible solvents. These low molecular weight salts were successfully used as gelators in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) solution and ionic liquids. Then, the properties of the obtained soft materials were analysed in terms of melting temperature and gel strength as accounted for by rheological investigations. The gel-phase formation was studied by using UV/Vis and resonance light scattering measurements, whereas the morphology of the soft materials was analysed by using polarised optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. To get informat…

Mesoporous silica microparticles gated with a bulky azo derivative for the controlled release of dyes/drugs in colon.

2018

[EN] Mesoporous silica microparticles were prepared, loaded with the dye safranin O (M-Saf) or with the drug budesonide (M-Bud) and capped by the grafting of a bulky azo derivative. Cargo release from M-Saf at different pH values (mimicking those found in the gastrointestinal tract) in the absence or presence of sodium dithionite (a reducing agent mimicking azoreductase enzyme present in the colon) was tested. Negligible safranin O release was observed at pH 6.8 and 4.5, whereas a moderate delivery at pH 1.2 was noted and attributed to the hydrolysis of the urea bond that linked the azo derivative onto the external surface of the inorganic scaffold. Moreover, a marked release was observed w…

Determination of Glyphosate and AMPA in Food Samples Using Membrane Extraction Technique for Analytes Preconcentration

2021

The method for determining glyphosate (NPG) and its metabolite AMPA (aminomethyl phosphonic acid) in solid food samples using UAE-SLM-HPLC–PDA technique was developed. Firstly, ultrasonic-assisted solvent extraction (UAE) and protein precipitation step were used for the analyte isolation. Then, the supernatant was evaporated to dryness and redissolved in distilled water (100 mL). The obtained solution was alkalized to pH 11 (with 1 M NaOH) and used directly as donor phase in SLM (supported liquid membrane) extraction. The SLM extraction was performed using 2 M NaCl (5 mL) as an acceptor phase. The flow rate of both phases (donor and acceptor) was set at 0.2 mL/min. The membrane extraction t…

Supported liquid membrane extraction ofglyphosate metabolites

2001

Use of the supported liquid membrane (SLM) technique for (aminomethyl)phosphonic acid (AMPA) extraction is presented. For the extraction of this analyte a suitable SLM system involves a liquid membrane containing Aliquat 336 – a cationic carrier that facilitates AMPA transport. The extraction of this compound, as in the case of glyphosate, is dependent on the donor phase pH and the concentration and type of counter‐ion in the acceptor phase, although some differences are also observed. In both cases the transport mechanism is counter‐coupled transport in which the driving force of mass transport over the membrane is created by the gradient of chloride anions from the acceptor to donor phase.
