CARS spectroscopy of CH4 for implication of temperature measurements in supercritical LOX/CH4 combustion

2007

International audience; Experimental and theoretical investigations of coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy of CH4 have been carried out. Experimental spectra were measured in a heated high-pressure test cell and compared with numerical simulations. Good agreement was obtained for the temperature and the pressure dependence of CARS spectra in the ranges 300-1100 K and 0.1-5.0 MPa. The observed dependencies provide useful guidance for CARS thermometry, allowing quantitative measurements of temperature in high-pressure combustors. Application of multiplex CH4 CARS thermometry for single-shot measurements in a LOX/CH4 combustion at high pressure was demonstrated at supercritical conditions …

A statistical subgrid-scale algorithm for precipitation formation in stratiform clouds in the ECHAM5 single column model

2011

Abstract. Cloud properties are usually assumed to be homogeneous within the cloudy part of the grid-box, i.e. subgrid-scale inhomogeneities in cloud cover and/or microphysical properties are often neglected. However, precipitation formation is initiated by large particles. Thus mean values are not representative and could lead to a delayed onset of precipitation. For a more physical description of the subgrid-scale structure of clouds we introduce a new statistical sub-column algorithm to study the impact of cloud inhomogeneities on stratiform precipitation. Each model column is divided into N independent sub-columns with sub-boxes in each layer, which are completely clear or cloudy. The cl…

Perspectives for CNO neutrino detection in Borexino

2018

International audience; Borexino measured with unprecedented accuracy the fluxes of solar neutrinos emitted at all the steps of the pp fusion chain. Still missing is the measurement of the flux of neutrinos produced in the CNO cycle. A positive measurement of the CNO neutrino flux is of fundamental importance for understanding the evolution of stars and addressing the unresolved controversy on the solar abundances. The measurement of the CNO neutrino flux in Borexino is challenging because of the low intensity of this component (CNO cycle accounts for about 1% of the energy emitted by Sun), the lack of prominent spectral features and the presence of background sources. The main background c…

Simultaneous determination of eight underivatised biogenic amines in fish by solid phase extraction and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometr…

2010

Biogenic amines on fish tissue are formed as a result of bacterial contamination and spoilage during storage. A new method based on liquid chromatography (LC) and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) using a triple quadrupole (QqQ) analyser was developed for the analysis of eight biogenic amines (cadaverine, histamine, phenylethylamine, putrescine, spermine, spermidine, tyramine and tryptamine) in fish tissues. Sample preparation was performed by extraction with trichloroacetic acid 5% and solid phase extraction clean up with STRATA X cartridge. The MS/MS method was validated and compared with a method based on the analysis of dansyl derivatives by LC and fluorescence detector (FD). MS/MS achie…

Three-dimensional hydration layer mapping on the (10.4) surface of calcite using amplitude modulation atomic force microscopy

2014

Calcite, the most stable modification of calcium carbonate, is a major mineral in nature. It is, therefore, highly relevant in a broad range of fields such as biomineralization, sea water desalination and oil production. Knowledge of the surface structure and reactivity of the most stable cleavage plane, calcite (10.4), is pivotal for understanding the role of calcite in these diverse areas. Given the fact that most biological processes and technical applications take place in an aqueous environment, perhaps the most basic - yet decisive - question addresses the interaction of water molecules with the calcite (10.4) surface. In this work, amplitude modulation atomic force microscopy is used…

Improving Fractionation of Human Milk Proteins through Calcium Phosphate Coprecipitation and Their Rapid Characterization by Capillary Electrophoresis

2018

This work describes a simple sample pretreatment method for the fractionation of human milk proteins (into their two main groups, whey and caseins) prior to their analysis. The protein-extraction protocol is based on the addition of calcium phosphate to nonadjusted pH human milk. The combination of calcium ions with phosphate results in an effective coprecipitation of caseins. To assess the suitability of this fractionation protocol, the protein extracts were analyzed by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), LC-MS/MS, and capillary electrophoresis (CE) analysis. The results evidence a significant decrease in contamination of casein fraction with whey proteins…
