Search for heavy long-lived charged particles with the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV

A search for long-lived charged particles reaching the muon spectrometer is performed using a data sample of 37 pb[superscript −1] from pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2010. No excess is observed above the estimated background. Stable [~ over τ] sleptons are excluded at 95% CL up to a mass of 136 GeV, in GMSB models with N[subscript 5] = 3, mmessenger = 250 TeV, sign(μ) = 1 and tanβ = 5. Electroweak production of sleptons is excluded up to a mass of 110 GeV. Gluino R-hadrons in a generic interaction model are excluded up to masses of 530 GeV to 544 GeV depending on the fraction of R-hadrons produced as [~ over g]-balls.

Search for massive long-lived highly ionising particles with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

2011

A search is made for massive highly ionising particles with lifetimes in excess of 100 ns, with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, using 3.1 pb-1 of pp collision data taken at √s = 7TeV. The signature of energy loss in the ATLAS inner detector and electromagnetic calorimeter is used. No such particles are found and limits on the production cross section for electric charges 6e ≤ |q| ≤ 17e and masses 200 GeV ≤ m ≤ 1000 GeV are set in the range 1–12 pb for different hypotheses on the production mechanism.

Search for stable hadronising squarks and gluinos with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC

Hitherto unobserved long-lived massive particles with electric and/or colour charge are predicted by a range of theories which extend the Standard Model. In this Letter a search is performed at the ATLAS experiment for slow-moving charged particles produced in proton–proton collisions at 7 TeV centre-of-mass energy at the LHC, using a data-set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb[superscript −1]. No deviations from Standard Model expectations are found. The MATHUSLA test stand

The rate of muons from LHC $pp$ collisions reaching the surface above the ATLAS interaction point is measured and compared with expected rates from decays of $W$ and $Z$ bosons and $b$- and $c$-quark jets. In addition, data collected during periods without beams circulating in the LHC provide a measurement of the background from cosmic ray inelastic backscattering that is compared to simulation predictions. Developments for neutron-induced fission at IGISOL-4

At the IGISOL-4 facility, neutron-rich, medium mass nuclei have usually been produced via charged particle-induced fission of natural uranium and thorium. Neutron-induced fission is expected to have a higher production cross section of the most neutron-rich species. Development of a neutron source along with a new ion guide continues to be one of the major goals since the commissioning of IGISOL-4. Simulations of the stopping efficiencies of fission ion guides

With the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line (IGISOL) facility, located at the University of Jyväskylä, products of nuclear reactions are separated by mass. The high resolving power of the JYFLTRAP Penning trap, with full separation of individual nuclides, capacitates the study of nuclides far from the line of stability. For the production of neutron-rich medium-heavy nuclides, fissioning of actinides is a feasible reaction. This can be achieved with protons from an in-house accelerator or, alternatively, with neutrons through the addition of a newly developed Be(p,xn)-converter. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous contaminants in aqueous environments. They affect cardiovascular development and function in fishes. The 3-ring PAH phenanthrene has recently been shown to impair cardiac excitation-contraction coupling by inhibiting Ca2+ and K+ currents in marine warm-water scombrid fishes. Espaces du quotidien et dynamiques de l’altérité pendant le confinement

This study is the first result of the research entitled "Mon Espace Vécu" (My Lived Space) conducted in Italy during the first lockdown of 2020 (March-June), which was imposed by the government to contain the Covid-19 pandemic. During that period, the authors collected hundreds of textual testimonies from volunteers experiencing everyday spaces during the pandemic. The reflection, conducted from the perspective of cultural geography and cultural anthropology, develops from the analysis of some of these testimonies. Specifically, this paper focuses on the forms of semantization of space and the relationship between the body, space, and dynamic identity/otherness.
