Self-piercing riveting for aluminium alloys-composites hybrid joints

In the paper, the growing interest on hybrid joints developed between composite panels and aluminium alloys blanks is focused. The self-piercing riveting operation is considered and its feasibility for the proposed joints verified. The most relevant process parameters were investigated in order to determine a suitable process window and, what is more, the mechanical performances of the developed joints were investigated in order to determine process parameters aimed to maximise them. A DC-DC power converter for PV module characterization

In this paper, a standard-compliant electronic load setup for PV module curve detection which features high accuracy, low cost and components count is proposed. The proposed device is based on a DC-DC power converter in open-loop configuration. The proposed system is designed according to regulation constraints in order to achieve high performances in curve detection. Design criteria are discussed. The model is implemented in PSIM environment. Simulation based on data input of a commercial PV Conergy E215P module are carried out under several environmental conditions to show the accuracy of the proposed electronic load. Simulation results are reported.

Uncertainty evaluation of a Backward/Forward Load Flow algorithm for a MV smart grid

This paper presents the uncertainty evaluation of an innovative measurement algorithm for load flow analysis in MV distribution networks. The measurement procedure is based on Low Voltage (LV) load power measurements applied on a Backward/Forward (B/F) algorithm for the Load Flow (LF) resolution. Furthermore, in the procedure a three phase voltage measurement at the MV generating substation bus-bars is also considered. A statistic approach of cables ageing in MV lines on thermal and electrical combined stress

The paper introduces a methodology that through a probabilistic characterisation of load for MV network, and implementing a life model for combined electric and thermal stresses, simulates the process of ageing of the insulating materials evaluating the expected life time of the cable. Such evaluation is necessary to the possibility of assuming less restrictive thermal overloading limits on electrical cables, with the consequential increase on reserve that cables could offer. Distribution grid analysys through PSAT open source tools

Application of an energy model for fatigue life prediction of construction steels under bending, torsion and synchronous bending and torsion

Abstract The paper contains a mathematical model of the material’s behaviour under cyclic loading taking into account the dynamics of the fatigue process, including the number of cycles to failure, induced by the mean stress value. The coefficients in the proposed model have been obtained from experimental tests under symmetrical and nonsymmetrical loading (with the stress ratio R =0). This paper investigates the detectability of mechanical unbalance in double cage induction motor load using motor vibration signature analysis technique. Rotor imbalances induce specific harmonic components in electrical, electromagnetical, and mechanical quantities. Hand-Held texting is less distracting than texting with the phone in a holder: anyway, don't do it

We studied the effects of texting while driving and the effects of mobile phone position (hand-held, holder) on drivers' lane-keeping performance, experienced workload, and in-car glance durations in a motion-platform driving simulator with 24 participants. Overall, we found the known negative effects of texting on lane-keeping performance, workload, and visual attention on road, suggesting that texting on the road in any manner is not risk-free. As a novel finding, we found that hand-held texting led to fewer lane-keeping errors and shorter total glance times off road compared to texting with the phone in a holder.
