Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV)-specific CD4+ T lymphocyte response in AIDS patients with no past or current HCMV disease following HAART.

2003

Abstract Background: The incidence of Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) end-organ disease has dramatically decreased since the implementation of highly active antiretroviral therapies (HAARTs), but the precise immune mechanism whereby HCMV is controlled remains to be elucidated. Objectives: To investigate the effect of (HAART) on CD4 + T-cell immunity to HCMV in AIDS patients with no past or current HCMV disease. Study design: Seventeen patients were prospectively examined for CD4 + (CD45RO + and CD45 RA + ) T-cell counts (flow cytometry), HIV RNA load (Amplicor HIV test), HCMV leukoDNAemia and HCMV DNA in urine (nested PCR), lymphoproliferative response (LPR) to HCMV, phytohemagglutinin (PHA) a…

Virological and immunological features of active cytomegalovirus infection in nonimmunosuppressed patients in a surgical and trauma intensive care un…

2010

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation occurs frequently in critically ill patients. The natural course of CMV infection and the interaction between CMV and the adaptive immune system in this setting remain poorly defined. Fifty-three CMV-seropositive patients in a surgical and trauma intensive care unit were included in this study. The CMV DNA load in tracheal aspirates (TA) and plasma (PL) was monitored by qPCR. CMV-specific T-cell immunity was assessed by intracellular cytokine staining. Plasma TNF-alpha levels were determined by ELISA. CMV reactivation occurred in 39.7% of patients (23% had CMV DNA detected only in TA). The analysis of TA allowed an earlier diagnosis in 28% of patients. Cle…

An evaluation of the role of NKG2C+natural killer cells in protection from cytomegalovirus DNAemia early following allogeneic stem cell transplantati…

2013

The role of natural killer (NK) cells in affording protection against human cytomegalovirus (CMV) in allogeneic stem cell transplant recipients is largely unknown. The current study was aimed at determining whether NKG2C+ NK cells confer protection from CMV DNAemia early following transplantation in patients lacking mono and polyfunctional CMV pp65 and IE-1-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell responses, as measured by flow cytometry for intracellular cytokine staining. Fourteen out of the 36 patients included in this study developed CMV DNAemia between days +30 and +60 after transplant. Three patients did so after day +60. Peripheral blood levels of CD56(bright) CD16(-/low) and CD56(dim) CD16+ NK…

Evaluating Human T-Cell Therapy of Cytomegalovirus Organ Disease in HLA-Transgenic Mice

2015

Reactivation of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) can cause severe disease in recipients of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Although preclinical research in murine models as well as clinical trials have provided 'proof of concept' for infection control by pre-emptive CD8 T-cell immunotherapy, there exists no predictive model to experimentally evaluate parameters that determine antiviral efficacy of human T cells in terms of virus control in functional organs, prevention of organ disease, and host survival benefit. We here introduce a novel mouse model for testing HCMV epitope-specific human T cells. The HCMV UL83/pp65-derived NLV-peptide was presented by transgenic HLA-A2.1 in the conte…

Lead-Lag-Shaped Interactive Force Estimation by Equivalent Output Injection of Sliding-Mode

2020

Estimation of interactive forces, which are mostly unavailable for direct measurement on the interface between a system and its environment, is an essential task in various motion control applications. This paper proposes an interactive force estimation method, based on the well-known equivalent output injection of the second-order sliding mode. The equivalent output injection is used to obtain a frequency-unshaped quantity that appears as a matched external disturbance and encompasses the interactive forces. Afterwards, a universal lead-lag shaper, depending on dynamics of the motion control system coupled with its environment, is used to extract an interactive force quantity. Once identif…

Comparison of Activated Sludge Processes at Different Temperatures: 35°C, 27–55°C, and 55°C

2002

The performance of mesophilic (35°C; referred to as R1) and thermophilic (55°C; R3) laboratory activated sludge processes (ASPs) as well as ASP with a fluctuating temperature (27-56°C; R2) was compared. During the 124-day runs, in R1 and R3 hydraulic retention time was gradually reduced from 18 h to 3 h, corresponding to an increase in volumetric loading rate from 2 to 10 kg soluble COD m−3d−1; in R2 hydraulic retention time was gradually reduced from 18 to 4.5 h, corresponding to an increase in volumetric loading rate from 2 to 7.5 kg soluble COD m−3d−1. R1 removed on average 85% of soluble COD (GF50-filtered) that was approximately 10% more than R3. In R2 SCOD removal was dependent on the…

Toward an understanding of the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between diphenylnitrone and a maleimide:bisamide complex. A DFT analysis of the reactivity o…

2007

Abstract The 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between diphenylnitrone and a maleimide:bisamide complex has been studied using density functional theory (DFT) methods at the B3LYP/6-31G∗ level. The molecular recognition of the bisamide receptor to maleimide favors the formation of the complex through three hydrogen bonds. However, they are not able to produce an efficient acceleration of the cycloaddition because the symmetric substitution of the dipolarophile sites. This poor capability is discussed in base of the transition state structures and the analysis of the reactivity indexes of the reagents.

Procesos fluviales en lechos con materiales gruesos

2013

Fluvíal processes ingravel-bed rívers. The bedload transport processes ingravel-bed rívers are not very known. The two most frequent features that characterize these rívers are the presence of a scour layer and the pavement. The coarse surface layer causes a great resistance to flow in gravel-bed rívers. So, flow resítance equations for computing average velocity can be applíed.
