Abstract Extrahepatic viral load in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) is still under debate. In this study, HBV infection rates and viral titers were examined within all PBMC subpopulations using limiting dilution-PCR (LD-PCR). PBMCs of patients with acute or chronic hepatitis B were separated by magnetic beads in monocytes, B-cells, CD4+ T-cells, CD8+ T-cells, and NK cells. Two Spanish natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster have been analysed with respect to genetic variability in third chromosome viability. The two populations, although from the same locality, belong to relatively different habitats: the inside of a cellar and a vineyard. The patterns of homozygote and heterozygote viability are similar in both populations. The homozygous detrimental loads estimated are very high and the values for the D:L (detrimental/lethal) ratio close to 2.5, which is higher than any previously found. Typical military tasks include load carriage, digging, and lifting loads. To avoid accumulation of fatigue, it is important to know the energy expenditure of soldiers during such tasks. The purpose of this study was to measure cardiorespiratory responses during military tasks in field conditions. AbstractIn visual working memory (VWM) tasks, participants’ performance can be improved by a retro-object-cue. However, previous studies have not investigated whether participants’ performance can also be improved by a retro-dimension-cue. Three experiments investigated this issue. We used a recall task with a retro-dimension-cue in all experiments. In Experiment 1, we found benefits from retro-dimension-cues compared to neutral cues. This retro-dimension-cue benefit is reflected in an increased probability of reporting the target, but not in the probability of reporting the non-target, as well as increased precision with which this item is remembered.
