Correlation between fecal incontinence and quality of life after low anterior resection for rectal cancer

2014

SUMMARY Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between fecal incontinence and quality of life after low anterior resection and long-term follow-up. Methods: For 72 patients with coloanal or low colorectal anastomosis, the quality of life was determined by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) questionnaires C-30 and CR-38. The Vaizey score was used for assessment of fecal incontinence. Results: The risk of fecal incontinence significantly increased with a lower level of anastomosis (p < 0.001). The QLQ CR-38 did not discern differences between patients. The OLQ C-30 only found significantly worse social and role function in pat…

THE ROLE OF SEMANTIC BORROWING IN THE FORMATION OF ECONOMIC TERMS

2014

Specialized terms can result from a number of semantic processes (e.g. meaning extension, meaning narrowing, meaning transfer), which affect words from the general vocabulary. In their turn, these processes can be language internal and take place in the absence of any influence from the outside, or can be triggered by the importation of new things, ideas, etc from another culture and the contact with the language of this culture. The present paper analyses the way in which the worldwide influence English is exerting today has led to the creation of new words in the Romanian vocabulary of business and economics. Our sole focus of attention is constituted by semantic borrowing, or the importa…

"Rokuja et pääse karkuun ilman jumpbootseja" : nonce borrowings in video gaming environment

2015

The changing paradigm of document delivery : exploring researchers’ peer to peer practices

2016

Purpose By definition, interlibrary lending is a process involving two libraries. The digital revolution changed the method by which the scientific documents were disseminated during the past couple of decades. Nowadays, researchers can exploit several software applications that enable them to upload, save and deliver their documents from one peer to another without the need for a middle man. This paper reviews this change via a study conducted in two Finnish academic universities. The aim of this study was to determine the extent to which researchers have adopted these new possibilities for document dissemination and how this change will affect the role of the libraries in document delive…

The Impact of Financial Development and Macroeconomic Fundamentals on Nonperforming Loans among Emerging Countries: An Assessment Using the NARDL App…

2022

The relationship between financial development indicators and non-performing loans (NPLs) has garnered significant attention, especially in emerging countries. The puzzle of whether financial sector development increases or decreases Non-performing Loans (NPL)s has not been resolved to the satisfaction of the curious mind. This research attempts to answer the above question by studying the asymmetric and symmetric association between financial sector development and NPLs, by utilizing the novel non-linear autoregressive distribution lag (NARDL) and the linear autoregressive distribution lag (ARDL) approach. Moreover, to make the study inclusive, we have added a series of proxies to measure …
