A probabilistic rainfall model to estimate the leading-edge lifetime of wind turbine blade coating system
2021
Rain-induced leading-edge erosion of wind turbine blades is associated with high repair and maintenance costs. For efficient operation and maintenance, erosion models are required that provide estimates of blade coating lifetime at a real scale. In this study, a statistical rainfall model is established that describes probabilistic distributions of rain parameters that are critical for site-specific leading-edge erosion assessment. A new droplet size distribution (DSD) is determined based on two years’ onshore rainfall data of an inland site in the Netherlands and the obtained DSD is compared with those from the literature. Joint probability distribution functions of rain intensities and dr…
Development and Long-Term Follow-Up of an Experimental Model of Myocardial Infarction in Rabbits
2020
Simple Summary Ischemic heart disease is one of the leading causes of death. A series of processes occur during acute myocardial infarction that contribute to the development of ventricular dysfunction, with subsequent heart failure and ventricular arrhythmias, which account for most episodes of sudden cardiac death in these patients. These complications are associated with the adverse cardiac remodeling that occurs during the healing process following an acute episode. The remodeling causes the appearance of a substrate that can trigger life-threatening arrhythmias, such as tachycardia and/or ventricular fibrillation. The development of experimental models for analyzing the basic mechanism…
Emerging stories of self: long-term outcomes of wilderness therapy in Norway
2020
This paper is a twelve-month follow-up study that explores perceived outcomes from participation in a Norwegian wilderness therapy program. Through a critical realist approach, the authors performe...
How to measure sustained psychic transformations in long-term treatments of chronically depressed patients: Symptomatic and structural changes in the…
2019
Worldwide, the pressure on psychoanalysis to prove the results of its treatments according to the criteria of so-called evidence-based medicine has increased. While a large number of studies on the results of psychoanalytic short-term therapies are now available, such studies are still largely lacking on psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic long-term therapies. In a large multicentre study, the results of psychoanalytical and cognitive-behavioural longterm therapies in chronically depressed patients were compared, Both psychotherapies led to statistically highly significant changes in depressive symptoms three years after the start of the treatments However, the focus of psychoanalytic treatme…
Economic costs associated with acute attacks and long-term management of hereditary angioedema.
2010
Background Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by recurrent acute attacks of swelling of the larynx, abdomen, and periphery. Objective To assess the economic burden associated with acute attacks and long-term management of HAE. Methods Burden was assessed via a Web-based survey of HAE patients (≥18 years old) that solicited information on attack characterization, short-term treatment, long-term disease management, impact on work, and patient costs. A standardized instrument, the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment questionnaire, was included to assess impact on work productivity. Standard medical costs and US average wage costs were assigned…

Impact of long-term treatment with inhaled corticosteroids and bronchodilators on lung function in a patient with post-infectious bronchiolitis oblit…
2016
Post-infectious bronchiolitis obliterans (PIBO) is a small airways disease characterized by fixed airflow limitation. Therefore, inhaled bronchodilators and corticosteroids are not recommended as maintenance therapy options. The management of PIBO currently consists only of close monitoring of affected patients, aimed at the prevention and early treatment of pulmonary infections. In recent years, there has been an increase in the incidence of PIBO in the pediatric population. Patients with PIBO are characterized by a progressive decline in lung function, accompanied by a decrease in overall functional capacity. Here, we report the case of a relatively young man diagnosed with PIBO and follo…
