Gut Microbiota, Microbial Metabolites and Human Physical Performance
2021
Trillions of microbes inhabiting the gut modulate the metabolism of the host. Cross-sectional studies have reported associations between physical performance and the gut microbiota (GM). Physical activity seems to increase GM diversity and the abundance of certain health-beneficial microbes. We reviewed the evidence from longitudinal studies on the connection between physically active lifestyle or long-term exercise interventions and the GM. We made literature searches using databases of Web of Science and PubMed Medline to collect human studies showing or not the associations between the GM and exercise. Many controversies exist in the studies. However, the longitudinal studies show that f…
Simple method of estimating consumption of internal combustion engine for hybrid application
2012
This article presents two simple methods to evaluate the fuel consumption of internal combustion engines. Furthermore, it points out the link between piston volume, engine size and fuel consumption as it gives the possibility to visualize the chosen working points inside an internal combustion engine operation points map. This leads to the fact that this approach is a very helpful tool for the design of hybrid systems including internal combustion engines. The two presented methods, one very simple, one more elaborated, are interesting as first approach of internal combustion engine sizing and to evaluate the consumption of internal combustion engine. The results for six pure internal combu…

Theoretical approaches for modelling buckling effects in rebars of RC members
2017
Buckling of longitudinal bars in reinforced concrete (RC) members is definitely a critical issue in framed structures subjected to seismic loads. Second order effects can affect the compressive stressâstrain law of steel bars, influencing ductility calculations of RC structures. Moreover, literature studies show that buckling can occur over a length wider than stirrupsâ pitch (global buckling mode), involving more stirrups and inducing large deflections in the bar. If the critical length is not carefully estimated, stirrupsâ failure can occur, causing also the sudden loss of confining effects in concrete. This paper presents the results of different approaches for calculating the crit…
Control design for a hypersonic aircraft using a switched linear parameter-varying system approach
2012
This paper is concerned with the control problem of an air-breathing hypersonic aircraft using a switched linear-parameter-varying systems approach. The rigid non-linear longitudinal model of a generic hypersonic aircraft is adopted with the aim of verifying the design methodology of the developed controller and switching logic. By linearizing the non-linear model of the hypersonic aircraft at trim points and dividing the velocity range into several parts, a switched linear parameter-varying model for the underlying system is derived. With the aid of multiple Lyapunov-like functions technique, controllers that ensure the tracking of given commands of the closed-loop system are designed und…

The survey on the beginnings of working life" The Cereq, the Associated Centres and the Observatories of universities throught about the methodology of longitudinal surveys toward the students of universities. This document is a guide which explains the precautions to realize and conduct surveys, in particular on the beginnings of working life, and suggests some elements of thinking about the analyses of the results.
