On nilpotent Moufang loops with central associators

Abstract In this paper, we investigate Moufang p-loops of nilpotency class at least three for p > 3 . The smallest examples have order p 5 and satisfy the following properties: (1) They are of maximal nilpotency class, (2) their associators lie in the center, and (3) they can be constructed using a general form of the semidirect product of a cyclic group and a group of maximal class. We present some results concerning loops with these properties. As an application, we classify proper Moufang loops of order p 5 , p > 3 , and collect information on their multiplication groups.

The star height of a regular expression is, informally, the maximum number of nested stars in the expression. The star height of a regular language is the minimal star height of a regular expression denoting this language. The notion of star height indicates in a certain sense the “loop complexity” of a regular expression and thus it gives a measure of the complexity of a regular language.

Expression of the transcription factor Pax6 in the adult rat dentate gyrus

The transcription factor Pax 6 is expressed in precursor cells during embryonic CNS development, and it plays an important role in the regulation of cell proliferation and neuronal fate determination. Pax 6-expressing cells are also present in the adult hippocampal dentate gyrus and subventricular zone/rostral migratory stream, regions in which neuronal precursors exist during adult life. In the adult dentate gyrus, precursor cells are located in the innermost portion of the granule cell layer, and Pax 6-expressing nuclei are most abundant in this region. Sox2-Mediated Conversion of NG2 Glia into Induced Neurons in the Injured Adult Cerebral Cortex

Summary The adult cerebral cortex lacks the capacity to replace degenerated neurons following traumatic injury. Conversion of nonneuronal cells into induced neurons has been proposed as an innovative strategy toward brain repair. Here, we show that retrovirus-mediated expression of the transcription factors Sox2 and Ascl1, but strikingly also Sox2 alone, can induce the conversion of genetically fate-mapped NG2 glia into induced doublecortin (DCX)+ neurons in the adult mouse cerebral cortex following stab wound injury in vivo. The dynamical behavior of a superconducting quantum interference device (a rf-SQUID) irradiated by a single mode quantized electromagnetic field is theoretically investigated. Treating the SQUID as a flux qubit, we analyze the dynamics of the combined system within the low lying energy Hilbert subspace both in the asymmetric and in the symmetric SQUID potential configurations. Vacuum induced berry phase: Theory and experimental proposal

We investigate quantum effects in geometric phases arising when a two-level system is interacting with a quantized electromagnetic field. When the system is adiabatically driven along a closed loop in the parameter space, signatures of the field quantization are observable in the geometric phase. We propose a feasible experiment to measure these effects in cavity QED and also analyse the semi-classical limit, recovering the usual Berry phase results.
