Rains of solitons in a figure-of-eight passively mode-locked fiber laser

2014

International audience; We report experimental observation of rains of solitons in figure-of-eight fiber laser passively mode-locked through nonlinear optical loop mirror. Soliton pulses are created from an extended noisy background and drift until they reach a condensed phase comprising several tens of aggregated solitons. The observation of this dynamics tends to strengthen the idea of the universality of the collective behavior of solitons.

Heavy quark decomposition of the S matrix and its relation to the pinch technique.

1995

We propose a decomposition of the S-matrix into individually gauge invariant sub-amplitudes, which are kinematically akin to propagators, vertices, boxes, etc. This decompsition is obtained by considering limits of the S-matrix when some or all of the external particles have masses larger than any other physical scale. We show at the one-loop level that the effective gluon self-energy so defined is physically equivalent to the corresponding gauge independent self-energy obtained in the framework of the pinch technique. The generalization of this procedure to arbitrary gluonic $n$-point functions is briefly discussed.

The two-loop soft function for heavy quark pair production at future linear colliders

2014

We report on the calculation of the threshold soft function for heavy quark pair production in e+ e- annihilation at two-loop order. Our main result is a generalization of the familiar Drell-Yan threshold soft function to the case of non-zero primary quark mass. We set up a framework based on the method of differential equations which allows for the straightforward calculation of the bare soft function to arbitrarily high orders in the dimensional regularization parameter. Remarkably, we find that we can obtain the bare two-loop Drell-Yan soft function from the heavy quark soft function to the order in epsilon required for a two-loop calculation by making simple replacements. We expect that…

Calculating loops without loop calculations: Next-to-leading order computation of pentaquark correlators

2012

We compute next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD corrections to the correlators of interpolating pentaquark currents and their absorptive parts. We employ modular techniques in configuration space which saves us from the onus of having to do loop calculations. The modular technique is explained in some detail. We present explicit NLO results for several interpolating pentaquark currents that have been written down in the literature. Our modular approach is easily adapted to the case of NLO corrections to multiquark correlators with an arbitrary number of quarks/antiquarks.

Molecular $\Omega_c$ states generated from coupled meson-baryon channels

2018

We have investigated $\Omega_c$ states that are dynamically generated from the meson-baryon interaction. We use an extension of the local hidden gauge to obtain the interaction from the exchange of vector mesons. We show that the dominant terms come from the exchange of light vectors, where the heavy quarks are spectators. This has as a consequence that heavy quark symmetry is preserved for the dominant terms in the $(1/m_Q)$ counting, and also that the interaction in this case can be obtained from the $\textrm{SU(3)}$ chiral Lagrangians. We show that for a standard value for the cutoff regulating the loop, we obtain two states with $J^{P}={1/2}^{-}$ and two more with $J^{P}={3/2}^{-}$, thr…

3-Loop Heavy Flavor Corrections in Deep-Inelastic Scattering with Two Heavy Quark Lines

2014

We consider gluonic contributions to the heavy flavor Wilson coefficients at 3-loop order in QCD with two heavy quark lines in the asymptotic region $Q^2 \gg m_{1(2)}^2$. Here we report on the complete result in the case of two equal masses $m_1 = m_2$ for the massive operator matrix element $A_{gg,Q}^{(3)}$, which contributes to the corresponding heavy flavor transition matrix element in the variable flavor number scheme. Nested finite binomial sums and iterated integrals over square-root valued alphabets emerge in the result for this quantity in $N$ and $x$-space, respectively. We also present results for the case of two unequal masses for the flavor non-singlet OMEs and on the scalar int…

One-loop results for the quark-gluon vertex in arbitrary dimension

2000

Results on the one-loop quark-gluon vertex with massive quarks are reviewed, in an arbitrary covariant gauge and in arbitrary space-time dimension. We show how it is possible to get on-shell results from the general off-shell expressions. The corresponding Ward-Slavnov-Taylor identity is discussed.

Non-coding RNAs at the Eukaryotic rDNA Locus: RNA–DNA Hybrids and Beyond

2019

The human ribosomal DNA (rDNA) locus encodes a variety of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). Among them, the canonical ribosomal RNAs that are the catalytic components of the ribosomes, as well as regulatory lncRNAs including promoter-associated RNAs (pRNA), stress-induced promoter and pre-rRNA antisense RNAs (PAPAS), and different intergenic spacer derived lncRNA species (IGSRNA). In addition, externally encoded lncRNAs are imported into the nucleolus, which orchestrate the complex regulation of the nucleolar state in normal and stress conditions via a plethora of molecular mechanisms. This review focuses on the triplex and R-loop formation aspects of lncRNAs at the rDNA locus in yeast and hu…

Up, down, strange and charm quark masses with N-f=2+1+1 twisted mass lattice QCD

2014

We present a lattice QCD calculation of the up, down, strange and charm quark masses performed using the gauge configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with N-f = 2 + 1 + 1 dynamical quarks, which include in the sea, besides two light mass degenerate quarks, also the strange and charm quarks with masses close to their physical values. The simulations are based on a unitary setup for the two light quarks and on a mixed action approach for the strange and charm quarks. The analysis uses data at three values of the lattice spacing and pion masses in the range 210-450 MeV, allowing for accurate continuum limit and controlled chiral extrapolation. The quark mass renorma…

Species- and Subtype-Specific Recognition by Antibody WF6 of a Sequence Segment Forming an α-Bungarotoxin Binding Site on the Nicotinic Acetylcholine…

1992

The monoclonal antibody WF6 competes with acetylcholine and alpha-bungarotoxin (alpha-BGT) for binding to the Torpedo nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) alpha 1 subunit. Using synthetic peptides corresponding to the complete Torpedo nAChR alpha 1 subunit, we previously mapped a continuous epitope recognized by WF6, and the prototope for alpha-BGT, to the sequence segment alpha 1(181-200). Single amino acid substitution analogs have been used as an initial approach to determine the critical amino acids for WF6 and alpha-BGT binding. In the present study, we continue our analysis of the structural features of the WF6 epitope by comparing its cross-reactivity with synthetic peptides corr…
