L’articolo precisa alcune considerazioni sul tema della luce nel Mediterraneo dove quest’ultima ha la capacità di incidere sull’architettura e ne evidenzia le forme. La forte relazione tra architettura e luce nel Mediterraneo è presente negli spazi delle Medine del Nord Africa come nelle famose moschee di Kairouan, Tunisi, Cordova, Damasco ecc. Nel saggio è proposta l'analisi di un luogo singolare delle dimore letterarie: l'andito. Lucio Piccolo dedica a questo ambiente domestico di transizione il secondo componimento di Plumelia e con esso inaugura un nuovo spostamento dalle «cattedrali del verde orlandiano» (Tedesco, 1986) agli interni più intimi della casa. L'autore, attraverso raffinate metafore, delinea precise coordinate spazio-temporali e al contempo descrive, con immagini evanescenti, una condizione di contemplazione e di sospensione che proprio uno studio genetico delle varianti testuali aiuta a decodificare.

Optical tomography from focus

A model and a method providing a 3D reconstruction of a given translucent object from a series of image acquisitions performed with various focus tunings is proposed. The object is imaged by transmission; refraction, reflection and diffusion effects are neglected. It is modeled as a stack of translucent parallel slices and the acquisition process can be described by a set of linear equations. We propose an efficient inversion technique with O(n) complexity, allowing practical applications with a simple laptop computer in a very reasonable time. Examples of results obtained with a simulated 3D translucent object are presented and discussed.

To evaluate whether first trimester fetal heart rate (FHR) and nuchal translucency (NT) associate with preterm birth (PTB).This was a comparative case-control study of 518 normal pregnancies with no history of PTB, of which 272 delivered at term (TB) and 246 progressed to spontaneous PTB prior to 37, 34, 32, and 28 weeks. Fetal heart rate (FHR) and NT values at the first-trimester scan were compared by means of univariable (Mann-Whitney) and multivariable logistic regression analysis considering hourglass membranes (HM) as the most severe PTB subgroup. In order to study the first trimester ultrasonographic differences between nuchal translucency and hygroma colli, we rescanned 25 fetuses (13 with nuchal translucency and 12 with hygroma colli) using transvaginal and three-dimensional ultrasonography, after obtaining a fetal karyotype report. Our objective was to test the premise that the different physiopathologic mechanisms of both processes would be reflected in detectable sonographic differences. Nowadays the measurement of the nuchal translucency thickness is being used as part of routine ultrasound scanning during the end of the first trimester of pregnancy, for the screening of chromosomal defects, as trisomy 21. Currently, the measurement is being performed manually by physicians. The measurement can take a long time for being accomplished, needs to be performed by highly skilled operators, and is prone to errors. We retrospectively assessed bone and visceral manifestations in patients with Gaucher disease type 1 (GD1) with whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WB-MRI) to determine the effects of different timing in initiating long-term enzyme replacement therapy.In 17 patients with GD1, we performed 2 WB-MRI examinations at a median interval of 13 months. Patients had received enzyme replacement therapy with alglucerase/imiglucerase for a median of 13 years prior to the first examination.
