The general topic of my philosophical dissertation is phenomenological ontology of breathing. I do not investigate the phenomenon of breathing as a natural scientific problem, but as a philosophical question. Within our tradition, breathing has been normally understood as a mechanistic-materialistic physiological life-sustaining process of gas exchange and cellular respiration which does not really seem to have any essential connection to human being’s spiritual, mental or philosophical capacities. Latvijas Astronomijas biedrības arhīvā glabājas mezosfēras mākoņu (MC) novērojumu žurnāli par laika posmu no 1957. līdz 1983. gadam.. Tā kā pēdējos gados ir pieaugusi interese par MK novērojumu vēsturisko statistiku klimata pārmaiņu kontekstā, ir veikta šo žurnālu digitalizācija. Materiālā ir aprakstīts novērojumu žurnālu saturs un to digitalizācijas metodika. Paši digitalizētie žurnāli ir pieejami šajā LU repozitorija kolekcijā, kā MS Excel faili.

Mezosfēras mākoņu novērojumos sastopamas novērotāju piezīmes, kas sava apjoma dēļ nav ievietojamas žurnāla failā. Vairākos gadījumos novērotāji žurnālos ir arī pievienojuši grafiskas skices. Attiecīgās piezīmes tāpēc ievietotas atsevišķā teksta failā. Tās attiecas uz visu novērojumu periodu no 1957. līdz 1983.gadam un ir sakārtotas hronoloģiskā secībā. --//-- Mesospheric Cloud observation logs contain notes made by observers in the form of longer texts or graphic sketches. They are not included in the log files, as it would make them difficult to see and use. This volume contains notes on the entire observation period 1957-1983. They are arranged by observation sites in chronological order.

Background The objective of this study was to determine the effect of antibiotic prophylaxis in preventing postoperative infections after extraction of impacted mandibular third molars. Material and Methods A Parallel-group, randomized, blind, placebo-controlled trial was performed. 154 patients were randomly allocated to 2 groups; experimental (n=77) receiving 2g amoxicillin 1 hour prior to surgery and control (n=77) receiving placebo. Primary outcome was postoperative infections and secondary outcome was the need for rescue analgesia. Waterlogged woods from sea or lakes are very fragile because chemical, physical and biological decay. Wood artefacts, if directly dried in air, risk a structurally collapse and loss original form and dimension. The progressive substitution of water with suitable strengthening materials can preserve the characteristic of the wood finds. Among various natural and synthetic polymers suitable for this porpoise we have chosen aqueous solutions of Klucel (hydroxypropylcellulose), a polymer obtained from etherification of cellulose. A further analysis of secretory structures of some taxa belonging to the genus Hypericum (Clusiaceae) in relation to the leaf vascular pattern

This work extends knowledge about the distribution of secretory structures (black nodules, translucent glands, and type A and B secretory canals) to other species of the genus Hypericum L., as only H. perforatum L. appears to have been widely investigated. Moreover, the current study was extended to include leaf vascular patterns. In the species studied, a possible correlation between the presence of black nodules and a particular biological form, that of hemicryptophytes scapose perennials such as H. perfoliatum L., H. perforatum L., H. pubescens Boiss., H. tetrapterum Fr., and H. triquetrifolium Turra, was noted.
