Microscopic carrier dynamics in quantum wells modulated by high-frequency lateral fields

Abstract We have investigated the dynamics of photogenerated carriers in GaAs quantum wells under the influence of high-frequency fields produced by metal gratings and by surface acoustic waves (SAW's) using spatially and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL). The frequency and phase of the PL oscillations induced by the high-frequency field yield information about the spatial distribution of the carriers and, in the case of SAW's, about the band-gap modulation induced by the SAW strain.

This work aims to present the current state of simulations of electroluminescence (EL) produced in gas-based detectors with special interest for NEXT --- Neutrino Experiment with a Xenon TPC. NEXT is a neutrinoless double beta decay experiment, thus needs outstanding energy resolution which can be achieved by using electroluminescence. Photon bunching of the nonlinear photoluminescence emitted by plasmonics metals

International audience; In this report, we investigate the statistical temporal distribution of nonlinear upconverted photoluminescence emitted by gold and silver nanostructures excited by focused near-infrared laser pulses. We systematically observe a clear signature of photon bunching regardless of the nano-object's geometry, material's crystalline arrangement, and electronic band structure. The similarity of the data obtained across very different plasmonic objects confirms that these types of nonlinear radiation share a common chaotic origin and result from a collection of emitters. Delocalization of Nonlinear Optical Responses in Plasmonic Nanoantennas

Remote excitation and emission of two-photon luminescence and second-harmonic generation are observed in micrometer long gold rod optical antennas upon local illumination with a tightly focused near-infrared femtosecond laser beam. We show that the nonlinear radiations can be emitted from the entire antenna and the measured far-field angular patterns bear the information regarding the nature and origins of the respective nonlinear processes. We demonstrate that the nonlinear responses are transported by the propagating surface plasmon at excitation frequency, enabling thereby polariton-mediated tailoring and design of nonlinear responses.
Near-dissociation photoassociative production of deeply bound NaCs molecules

We demonstrate that a photoassociation resonance detuned less than a wave number below the Cs 6 {sup 2}P{sub 3/2} atomic line can be used to create a deeply bound molecular sample of ultracold polar NaCs. We assign 1 {sup 1}{Sigma}{sup +} (v=4,5,6,11,19) vibrational levels utilizing a pulsed depletion spectroscopic method (scanning {approx}700 cm{sup -1} at a time) in which we observe the 1 {sup 1}{Sigma}{sup +}{yields}2 {sup 1}{Sigma}{sup +}-1 {sup 3{Pi}} vibrational progression. ATP distribution and localization of mitochondria in Suberites domuncula (Olivi 1792) tissue

SUMMARY The metabolic energy state of sponge tissue in vivo is largely unknown. Quantitative bioluminescence-based imaging was used to analyze the ATP distribution of Suberites domuncula (Olivi 1792) tissue, in relation to differences between the cortex and the medulla. This method provides a quantitative picture of the ATP distribution closely reflecting the in vivo situation. The obtained data suggest that the highest ATP content occurs around channels in the sponge medulla. HPLC reverse-phase C-18, used for measurement of ATP content, established a value of 1.62 μmol ATP g–1 dry mass in sponge medulla, as opposed to 0.04 μmol ATP g–1 dry mass in the cortex, thus indicating a specific and…

In this work we analyze the pigments used in the decoration of red and yellow motifs present in the portable art of the Parpallo Cave (Gandia, Spain), one of the most important Palaeolithic sites in the Spanish Mediterranean region. Gold nanostars (GNS) have been coated with four different polyethylene glycols (PEGs) equipped with a -SH function for grafting on the gold surface. These PEGs have different chain lengths with average MW = 2000, 3000, 5000 and average number of -O-CH2-CH2 - units 44, 66, and 111, respectively. Two are neutral and two are terminated with -COOH and -NH2 functions, thus bearing negative and positive charges at physiological pH, thanks to the formation of carboxylate and ammonium groups. Tunable Phosphorescent Emission through Energy Transfer within Multilayer Thin Films Based on a Carbazole-Based Host and Ir(III)-Complex Guest System

A new method to tune both phosphorescence emission intensity and spectroscopic colors based on the alternatively structured host/guest multilayer thin films prepared by the spin-assisted LbL deposition is presented. Their emission characteristics are demonstrated with pairs of positively charged Ir-PEI complexes as guests and negatively charged CBZ-PAA as hosts. The phosphorescent emission of Ir-PEI complexes is enhanced by the energy transfer from the host to the guest and, additionally, this energy transfer can be finely tuned by the insertion of spacer layers between the phosphorescent donor and acceptor layers to vary the emission intensity as well as to render different emission colors.

Abstract A series of amphiphilic biphenylylacetylene-based homo- and copolymers (PBPAs) carrying chiral and/or achiral oligo(ethylene glycol) pendants at the 4’-position of the biphenyl units were synthesized and the amplification of the macromolecular helicity through noncovalent and/or covalent chiral interactions followed by the memory of the helicity were investigated in both water and organic solvents.
