Luminescence of ZnO nanopowders

Abstract The luminescence of ZnO nanocrystals prepared by different methods was studied under pulsed electron beam excitation. It is shown that the luminescence intensity depends on the nanocrystal sintering conditions and does not depend on the nanocrystal size within the range 10–50 nm. The relative luminescence intensities for the 3.32 eV (free exciton) and ∼3.20 eV (bound exciton) bands showed a dependence on nanocrystal size. The role of the nanocrystal surface in excitonic luminescence is discussed.

Evaluation of the relative thermoluminescence efficiency of LiF:Mg,Ti and LiF:Mg,Cu,P TL detectors to low-energy heavy ions

Abstract The most popular types of LiF-based thermoluminescent (TL) detectors, LiF:Mg,Ti (MTS-N) and LiF:Mg,Cu,P (MCP-N), have been investigated, with respect to their dose (fluence) response and relative TL efficiency to different ion species. The detectors were irradiated using the nitrogen, iron, krypton and xenon ion beams, at energies ranging from 5.0 to 9.3 MeV/n. Supra- and sublinear response was found, for the MTS-N and MCP-N, respectively, similarly as observed for γ-rays. Modelling glow curves of thermoluminescent radiometric devices

Thermoluminescent (TLD) radiation dosimeters enjoy wide usage due to low cost and simplicity of use. They however require complex device modelling in order to extract the measured dose. A new glow peak model and fit method are presented, that offer a more robust fit to the glow-curves and allows operators to enter visually inspectable parameters (rather than physical quantities difficult to estimate from the visual inspection of the glow curves themselves). Fits performed on the GLOCANIN-challenge's RefGlow-002 and RefGlow-009 [2] are presented, highlighting the good performance of the GEMINI C++ code written.

Chemiluminescence response of ß-glucan stimulated leukocytes isolated from different tissues and peritoneal cavity of Dicentrarchus labrax

Abstract The respiratory burst of leukocytes isolated from sea bass ( Dicentrarchus labrax ) pronephros, peritoneal cavity (P.C.), spleen and blood, was measured by a chemiluminescence (CL) assay after stimulation with β-glucan. The CL response by P.C. and pronephros leukocytes was significantly higher than that expressed by a similar number of cells separated from spleen and blood. This probably reflects the observation that the proportion of macrophages and neutrophils was highest in the populations of leukocytes from peritoneal cavity and pronephros. Aroclor 1254 inhibits the chemiluminescence response of peritoneal cavity cells from sharpsnout sea bream (Diplodus puntazzo)

Chronic exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) affect the immune system of fish and could lead to a decreased disease resistance. The effects of Aroclor 1254, PCB mixtures, on the Diplodus puntazzo innate immunity were examined by assaying the zymosan stimulated chemiluminescence response (CL) of peritoneal cavity cells (PCCs) at various times (1, 24, 48 h and 1-4 weeks) from intraperitoneal injection of the xenobiotic (1 mg kg(-1) body weight). Controls were performed by assaying cells from medium-treated fish. Influence of mobile ions on the electroluminescence characteristics of methylammonium lead iodide perovskite diodes

In this work, we study the effect of voltage bias on the optoelectronic behavior of methylammonium lead iodide planar diodes. Upon biasing the diodes with a positive voltage, the turn-on voltage of the electroluminescence diminishes and its intensity substantially increases. This behavior is reminiscent of that observed in light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs), single-layer electroluminescent devices in which the charge injection is assisted by the accumulation of ions at the electrode interface. Light absorption in silicon quantum dots embedded in silica

The photon absorption in Si quantum dots (QDs) embedded in SiO2 has been systematically investigated by varying several parameters of the QD synthesis. Plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) or magnetron cosputtering (MS) have been used to deposit, upon quartz substrates, single layer, or multilayer structures of Si-rich- SiO2 (SRO) with different Si content (43-46 at. %). Infinite coordination polymer networks metallogelation of aminopyridine conjugates and in situ silver nanoparticle formation

Herein we report silver(i) directed infinite coordination polymer network (ICPN) induced self-assembly of low molecular weight organic ligands leading to metallogelation. Structurally simple ligands are derived from 3-aminopyridine and 4-aminopyridine conjugates which are composed of either pyridine or 2,2'-bipyridine cores. The cation specific gelation was found to be independent of the counter anion, leading to highly entangled fibrillar networks facilitating the immobilization of solvent molecules.
