Formation of self-trapped excitons through stimulated recombination of radiation-induced primary defects in alkali halides

1998

Abstract A self-trapped exciton formation through photostimulated recombination of an F and an H center — the exciton-created primary defect pair, is proposed and experimentally examined in alkali halides at low temperatures.

Photoemission of electrons into electrolyte from cadmium oxide layers formed by anodic oxidation of undeformed and plastically deformed cadmium plates

1995

Studies of electron emission (external photoeffect) at the electrode/solution interface are an important part of contemporary photoelectrochemistry. The results of systematic studies of this phenomenon led to the formulation of fundamental relationships and to new methods for investigation of the physicochemical processes occurring at the electrode-electrolyte interface [1-4]. In particular, photoemission measurements enabled a number of parameters relating to the structure of the semiconductor/electrolyte interface to be determined. The photoemission current from semiconductors with many surface states to solutions with a sufficiently high electrolyte concentration is described by the well…

Characterization of quantum dot/conducting polymer hybrid films and their application to light-emitting diodes.

2009

Quantum dot/conducting polymer hybrid films are used to prepare light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The hybrid films (CdSe@ZnS quantum dots excellently dispersed in a conducting polymer matrix, see figure) are readily prepared by various solution-based processes and are also easily micropatterned. The LEDs exhibit a turn-on voltage of 4 V, an external quantum efficiency greater than 1.5%, and almost pure-green quantum-dot electroluminescence.

Solution processable high band gap hosts based on carbazole functionalized cyclic phosphazene cores for application in organic light‐emitting diodes

2011

A new class of solution processable dendrimers based on cyclic phosphazene (CP) cores have been prepared and used as host materials for blue and green organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). The dendrimers are prepared in high yield from minimal step reactions, are soluble in common solvents for solution processing, are amorphous, and have excellent thermal properties necessary for application in OLEDs. OLED efficiencies of 10.3 cd/A (4.2 Im/W) and 35.3 cd/A (33.5 Im/W) were achieved using commercially available Flrpic and Ir(mppy) 3 as blue and green phosphorescent emitters, respectively. These efficiencies were 2x higher than control devices prepared using poly(N-vinylcarbazole), the most …

Environment assisted photoconversion of luminescent surface defects in SiO 2 nanoparticles

2017

Abstract Time-resolved photoluminescence investigation on SiO 2 nanoparticles was carried out in controlled atmosphere, with the aim to discern the effects induced on the typical blue luminescence band by high power UV Nd:YAG laser photons (4.66 eV) and by some selected molecular species of the air (O 2 , N 2 , CO 2 , H 2 O). These factors ultimately determine both the brightness and photostability of the emitting defect, so as to limit the unique and attracting potentialities offered by this system in many applicative fields. Here it is highlighted that the effects due to photons and molecules, singularly considered, are not additive, the radiation being more dramatic in reducing the emiss…

Enhancement of the Lifetime of Metastable States in Er-Doped Si Nanocrystals by External Colored Noise

2015

The changes in the lifetime of a metastable energy level in Er-doped Si nanocrystals in the presence of an external source of colored noise are analyzed for different values of noise intensity and correlation time. Exciton dynamics is simulated by a set of phenomenological rate equations which take into account all the possible phenomena inherent in the energy states of Si nanocrystals and Er^{3+} ions in the host material of Si oxide. Electronic deexcitation is studied by examining the decay of the initial population of the Er atoms in the first excitation level 4I_{13/2} through fluorescence and cooperative energy transfer upconversion. Our results show that the deexcitation process of th…

Exceptionally long-lived light-emitting electrochemical cells: multiple intra-cation π-stacking interactions in [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)][PF6] emitters

2015

A series of cyclometalated iridium(iii) complexes [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)][PF6] (N^N = 2,2′-bipyridine (1), 6-phenyl-2,2′-bipyridine (2), 4,4′-di-tert-butyl-2,2′-bipyridine (3), 4,4′-di-tert-butyl-6-phenyl-2,2′-bipyridine (4); HC^N = 2-(3-phenyl)phenylpyridine (HPhppy) or 2-(3,5-diphenyl)phenylpyridine (HPh2ppy)) are reported. They have been synthesized using solvento precursors so as to avoid the use of chlorido-dimer intermediates, chloride ion contaminant being detrimental to the performance of [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)][PF6] emitters in light-electrochemical cell (LEC) devices. Single crystal structure determinations and variable temperature solution 1H NMR spectroscopic data confirm that the pendant pheny…
