Erityinen tuki perusopetusta ohjaavissa asiakirjoissa
2015
Tutkielman tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa ja arvioida, millaisia sisältöjä erään kunnan perusopetusta ohjaavissa asiakirjoissa on erityisen tuen osalta. Tutkielman aineistoina olivat kunnan paikallinen opetussuunnitelma ja kunnan suomenkielisen perusopetuksen lukuvuosisuunnitelmat. Näiden asiakirjojen sisältöjen tutkiminen koettiin merkityksellisenä, koska sisältöjen arvioinnin myötä myös kehitystyö on mahdollista. Lisäksi aihe on ajankohtainen, koska uusi opetussuunnitelma on tulossa voimaan syksyllä 2016. A…
The good, the bad and the advantageous : Migrants’ attitudes towards other migrants
2023
There is a growing number of various ethnic groups in Finland. The attitudes and categorizations that host country nationals have and make regarding migrants is frequently researched. The attitudes that migrants have towards other migrants has, however, been much less researched. This paper provides an in-depth analysis that considers what factors are behind the attitudes that migrants form of other migrants and how these impact categorizations and hierarchies. The empirical research material of this study is based on 77 qualitative interviews with migrants living in Finland, carried out in 2018–2019. In the analysis, various theories of minority relations are applied. The research finds th…
Basic school teachers' attitudes towards inclusive education in Ghana
2011
ABSTRACT Attitudes towards Inclusive Education are extremely complex and vary from one teacher to another. This is because traditionally, children with Special Education Needs (SEN) have been segregated into separate learning environments. This practice is now being questioned by teachers who believe it is an infringement of the rights of children with SEN. The proponents of Inclusive Education (IE) are of the opinion that including students with disabilities into mainstream classrooms would maximise their learning experiences. The present study examined the attitudes of basic school teachers in mainstream classrooms towards Inclusive Education in Ghana. It also assessed the best learning e…

Evolutionary approach for achieving structural coverage in testing IEC 61499 function block systems
2015
The topic of this thesis is automated test generation for control software represented in a specific standard, the IEC 61499. This standard, which is largely based on the concept of function block, establishes a way to design distributed control systems in a visually clear way. The goal of the thesis was to design a test generation approach or a number of such approaches that would produce input test data with high coverage of the implementation of systems under test. Coverage is a measure which expresses the fraction of the system that was exercised at least ones when all tests in a test suite were run on this system. To reach the stated goal, evolutionary computation, a general optimizati…
Cooperation between Different CRISPR-Cas Types Enables Adaptation in an RNA-Targeting System
2021
CRISPR-Cas systems are immune systems that protect bacteria and archaea against their viruses, bacteriophages. Immunity is achieved through the acquisition of short DNA fragments from the viral invader’s genome.
Silent rain: does the atmosphere-mediated connectivity between microbiomes influence bacterial evolutionary rates?
2020
ABSTRACT Air carries a vast number of bacteria and viruses over great distances all the time. This leads to continuous introduction of foreign genetic material to local, established microbial communities. In this perspective, I ask whether this silent rain may have a slowing effect on the overall evolutionary rates in the microbial biosphere. Arguably, the greater the genetic divergence between gene ‘donors’ and ‘recipients’, the greater the chance that the gene product has a deleterious epistatic interaction with other gene products in its genetic environment. This is due to the long-term absence of check for mutual compatibility. As such, if an organism is extensively different from other…

Initial Coin Offering (ICO) as a Fundraising Strategy : A Multiple Case Study on Success Factors
2019
Cryptocurrencies and Initial Coin Offerings (ICO) are some of the more prominent examples of currently used blockchain technology applications. Especially software startups have leveraged ICOs to gain funding early on in their lifecycles, going on to develop and create new blockchain based applications. Recently, larger companies such as Facebook have also begun to show interest in cryptocurrency, although thus far not for funding purposes in the form of ICOs. In this paper, we investigate factors that positively affect the abilities of companies to meet their fundraising goals via ICOs. We first identify a set of factors from extant literature and then seek to further confirm the effect of…
