A New Paradigm in Interactive Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization
2020
Over the years, scalarization functions have been used to solve multiobjective optimization problems by converting them to one or more single objective optimization problem(s). This study proposes a novel idea of solving multiobjective optimization problems in an interactive manner by using multiple scalarization functions to map vectors in the objective space to a new, so-called preference incorporated space (PIS). In this way, the original problem is converted into a new multiobjective optimization problem with typically fewer objectives in the PIS. This mapping enables a modular incorporation of decision maker’s preferences to convert any evolutionary algorithm to an interactive one, whe…
"Zooropa! my Zooropa!" : U2's critique of Europe in the 1990s
2011
Tämän tutkielman aiheena on irlantilaisen U2-yhyeen Euroopan-kiertue Zooropa (1993) ja jossain määrin sitä seurannut PopMart-kiertue (1997). Zooropa-kiertueellaan U2 esitteli eurooppalaisia poliittisia teemoja, joihin yhtyeen jäsenet suhtautuivat varauksellisesti tai kielteisesti. Tutkielman tavoitteena on tunnistaa Zooropa-kiertueen Eurooppaan liittyviä poliittisia teemoja ja selvittää miten varauksellisuus niitä kohtaan ilmeni. Teoriapohjana on verbaalinen ironia. Sachi Kumon-Nakamuran (1993) mukaan verbaalisessa ironiassa on pragmaattista epärehellisyyttä eli puhuja ei aidosti tarkoita sanomaansa. Lisäksi puhuja käyttää alluusioita eli viittaa johonkin toteutumatta jääneeseen odotukseen,…
Inkluusioideologian ja koulutuspolitiikan jännitteitä 2000-luvun suomalaisessa peruskoulussa
2015
Prosessi on ollut hidas, vaikka suomalainen koulutuspolitiikka on periaatteellisella tasolla sitoutunut keskeisimpiin kansainvälisiin julkilausumiin edistääkseen osaltaan inkluusioideologian mukaista koulun kehittämistä. peerReviewed
Association of developmental coordination disorder and low motor competence with impaired bone health: A systematic review.
2021
Aims Individuals with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) and low motor competence (LMC) may be at increased risk of low bone health due to their lifetime physical activity patterns. Impaired bone health increases an individual’s risk of osteoporosis and fracture; therefore, it is necessary to determine whether a bone health detriment is present in this group. Accordingly, this systematic review explores the association between DCD/LMC and bone health. Methods and Procedures Studies were included with assessment of bone health in a DCD/LMC population. Study bias was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal checklist. Due to heterogeneity, meta-analysis was not possible and narrative …
Effect of fall direction on the lower hip fracture risk in athletes with different loading histories : A finite element modeling study in multiple si…
2022
Physical loading makes bones stronger through structural adaptation. Finding effective modes of exercise to improve proximal femur strength has the potential to decrease hip fracture risk. Previous proximal femur finite element (FE) modeling studies have indicated that the loading history comprising impact exercises is associated with substantially higher fracture load. However, those results were limited only to one specified fall direction. It remains thus unclear whether exercise-induced higher fracture load depends on the fall direction. To address this, using magnetic resonance images of proximal femora from 91 female athletes (mean age 24.7 years with >8 years competitive career) and …
Association between long-term exercise loading and lumbar spine trabecular bone score (TBS) in different exercise loading groups
2015
Objective: To examine whether different exercise loading is associated with lumbar vertebral texture as assessed with Trabecular Bone Score (TBS). Methods: Data from 88 Finnish female athletes and 19 habitually active women (reference group) were analyzed. Participants’mean age was 24.3 years(range 17-40 years).Athletes were divided into five specific exercise loading groups according to sport-specific training history: high-impact (triple jumpers and high jumpers), odd-impact (soccer players and squash players), high-magnitude (power lifters), repetitive impact (endurance runners), and repetitive non-impact (swimmers). TBS-values were determined from lumbar vertebral L1-L4 DXA images. Body…
Greater maintenance of bone mineral content in male than female athletes and in sprinting and jumping than endurance athletes: a longitudinal study o…
2020
Abstract Summary We investigated longitudinal changes in tibia bone strength in master power (jumping and sprinting) and endurance (distance) athletes of both sexes. Bone mass but not cross-sectional moment of inertia was better maintained in power than endurance athletes over time, particularly in men and independent of changes in performance. Objective Assessment of effects of sex and athletic discipline (lower limb power events, e.g. sprint running and jumping versus endurance running events) on longitudinal changes in bone strength in masters athletes. Methods We examined tibia and fibula bone properties at distal (4% distal-proximal tibia length) and proximal (66% length) sites using p…
Do bone geometric properties of the proximal femoral diaphysis reflect loading history, muscle properties, or body dimensions?
2019
Abstract Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate activity‐induced effects from bone geometric properties of the proximal femur in athletic vs nonathletic healthy females by statistically controlling for variation in body size, lower limb isometric, and dynamic muscle strength, and cross‐sectional area of Musculus gluteus maximus. Methods: The material consists of hip and proximal thigh magnetic resonance images of Finnish female athletes (N = 91) engaged in either high jump, triple jump, soccer, squash, powerlifting, endurance running or swimming, and a group of physically active nonathletic women (N = 20). Cross‐sectional bone geometric properties were calculated for the lesse…
The emergence and adaptive use of prestige in an online social learning task
2020
AbstractPrestige-biased social learning occurs when individuals preferentially learn from others who are highly respected, admired, copied, or attended to in their group. This form of social learning is argued to reflect novel forms of social hierarchy in human societies, and, by providing an efficient short-cut to acquiring adaptive information, underpin the cumulative cultural evolution that has contributed to our species’ ecological success. Despite these potentially important consequences, little empirical work to date has tested the basic predictions of prestige-biased social learning. Here we provide evidence supporting the key predictions that prestige-biased social learning is used …
Reliability of upper-limb diaphyseal mineral and soft-tissue measurements using peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT)
2018
Objectives: To quantify between-day reliability of upper-body diaphyseal measurements (radius, ulna, humerus) using peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (pQCT). - Methods: Fourteen males (age: 25.8±2.3 years,) underwent repeat pQCT scans (one to two days apart) at mid-shaft ulna (60%), mid-shaft radius (60%) and mid-shaft humerus (50%) cross-sections of the non-dominant limb. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and coefficients of variation (CV) were determined for musculoskeletal morphology variables. - Results: Reliability was excellent (ICC: 0.76–0.99; CV: 1.3– 7.3) at all sites for bone mass, stress-strain index, endocortical and pericortical radius, endocortical volumetric…
