Motions with Emotions? : A Phenomenological Approach to Understanding the Simulated Aliveness of a Robot Body

This article examines how the interactive capabilities of companion robots, particularly their materiality and animate movements, appeal to human users and generate an image of aliveness. Building on Husserl’s phenomenological notion of a ‘double body’ and theories of emotions as affective responses, we develop a new understanding of the robots’ simulated aliveness. Analyzing empirical findings of a field study on the use of the robot Zora in care homes for older people, we suggest that the aliveness of companion robots is the result of a combination of four aspects: 1) material ingredients, 2) morphology, 3) animate movements guided by software programs and human operators as in Wizard of …

Quaternary deposits within the National Geologic Maps of Northwestern Sicily: climatic, environmental and tectonic implications. In Northwestern Sicily, Quaternary continental, coastal and marine deposits outcrop. Optical absorption and electron paramagnetic resonance of the E’_alfa center in amorphous silicon dioxide

We report a combined study by optical absorption OA and electron paramagnetic resonance EPR spectroscopy on the E point defect in amorphous silicon dioxide a-SiO2. This defect has been studied in -ray irradiated and thermally treated oxygen-deficient a-SiO2 materials. Our results have pointed out that the E center is responsible for an OA Gaussian band peaked at 5.8 eV and having a full width at half maximum of 0.6 eV. The estimated oscillator strength of the related electronic transition is 0.14. Optical absorption band at 5.8 eV associated with the E’_gamma centers in amorphous silicon dioxide: Optical absorption and EPR measurements

Line shape modifications induced by thermal treatment in the optical absorption and electron paramagnetic resonance EPR signals associated with the E center are experimentally investigated in various types of -irradiated amorphous silicon dioxide a-SiO2. The g values of the EPR main resonance line of the E center show a shift correlated with the peak energy variation of the absorption band at about 5.8 eV associated with this defect. These spectroscopic changes are proposed to originate from structural modifications of the defect environment. Question: Is sexual signalling (courtship call rate) determined by physiological fitness (energy metabolism at rest), endurance during physically demanding activity, an aspect of immune defence (lytic activity) or body mass? Matemātiskās morfoloģijas operatoru pamatīpasību izpēte

Darbā tiek pētītas klasiskas matemātiskās morfoloģijas pamatoperatoru – dilācijas, erozijas, slēgšanas un atvēršanas svarīgākās īpašības un šo operatoru mijiedarbība. Speciālu uzmanību mēs pievēršam operatoru savstarpējai dualitātei un Galuā saiknei starp operatoriem. Liela daļa no darbā iekļautiem rezultātiem ir zināmi, tomēr mums pieejamajā literatūrā tie ir doti bez pieradījuma. Savukārt, šajā darbā visiem apgalvojumiem mēs sniedzam detalizētus oriģinālus pieradījumus. Iegūtie rezultāti ir ilustrēti ar vizuāliem attēliem, kuri ir iegūti ar python programmas palīdzību. Darba pēdējā daļā mēs pievēršamies morfoloģisku operatoru topoloģiskai interpretācijai.
