Kohti ikuista rauhaa : Immanuel Kantin rauhanteoria

Immanuel Kant esittää teoksessaan "Ikuiseen rauhaan" ajatuksensa valtioiden välisestä rauhasta. Kantin esitys koostuu alustavista ja lopullisista määrityksistä, kahdesta lisäyksestä sekä politiikan ja moraalin suhteen pohtimisesta. Tarkastelen ensin yksityiskohtaisesti Kantin näkemysten pohjalta muotoutuvaa, varsin länsimaisille arvoille perustuvaa rauhanteoriaa. Tämän jälkeen käsittelen Kantista esitettyjä tulkintoja, joissa muun muassa pohditaan oliko Kant maailmanvaltion kannalla vai ei, nähdään Kant sekä oikeutetun sodan että ikuisen rauhan teoreetikkona ja muodostetaan kokonaisvaltainen näkemys Kantin rauhanteoriasta. Public engagements with Lapland’s Dark Heritage: Community archaeology in Finnish Lapland

Research project Lapland’s Dark Heritage organized a one-week public excavation in Inari, Finnish Lapland, at a Second World War (WWII) German military hospital site in August 2016. #InariDig took place with the help of international experts and pre-registered volunteers. In this field report, two of the archaeologists leading the excavations and an ethnographer who took part in documenting this community archaeology experiment introduce the excavation sites and activities reflecting on the engagements with volunteers and local community. peerReviewed

In previous research on the history of the Second World War in Finland and Norway, relations between the German and Austrian occupying forces and the Sami people have generally been considered to be good. The occupant gaze upon the Sami has been interpreted as exoticizing and “touristic”. Historical encounters and the Sami position in the literary discourse are discussed and explained in this article, using a selection of German and Austrian wartime and post-war literature. Landscapes of loss and destruction: : Sámi elders’ childhood memories of the second world war

The so-called Lapland War between Finland and Germany at the end of the Second World War led to a mass-scale destruction of Lapland. Both local Finnish residents and the indigenous Sámi groups lost their homes, and their livelihoods suffered in many ways. The narratives of these deeply traumatic experiences have long been neglected and suppressed in Finland and have been studied only recently by academics and acknowledged in public. In this text, we analyze the interviews with four elders of one Sámi village, Vuotso. We explore their memories, from a child’s perspective, scrutinizing the narration as a multilayered affective process that involves sensual and embodied dimensions of memory. ©…

Tarkastelen tutkielmassani Surkeiden sattumusten sarja -nimisen lastenkirjasarjan fiktiivisen tekijähahmon, Lemony Snicketin, rooleja sarjan maailman rakentumisen näkökulmasta. Niin Snicket kuin sarjakin ovat Daniel Handler -nimisen materiaalisen tekijän tuotosta, mutta itse kirjoista tämä ei käy ilmi. Snicket ei kuitenkaan ole vain Handlerin salanimi vaan myös kirjojen kertoja ja henkilöhahmo niiden maailmassa. Sarjan annetaan ymmärtää perustuvan Snicketin tutkimustyölle: kirjat ovat fiktiivisiä tutkimusraportteja kolmen orpolapsen epäonnisesta elämästä. Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on tutkia Muumien maailmankuvaa Tove Janssonin Muumit Rivieralla –sarjakuvassa. Maailmankuvaa tarkastellaan erityisesti kielen näkökulmasta ja sen oletuksen pohjalta, että puhujan maailmankuva näkyy hänen käyttämässään kielessä. Maailmankuvan tarkastelun apuna on Juha Mannisen kokoava ajatus siitä, että maailmankuvaan kuuluvat käsitykset ajasta, yliluonnollisesta, luonnosta ja ihmisen suhteesta siihen, ihmisestä itsestään ja hänen suhteestaan muihin sekä käsitys yhteiskunnasta. Climate Change, Uncertainty and Ethical Superstorms

I argue that one of the most urgent tasks of geoethics is how to deal with climate change in a just and equitable way. At worst, our current path could lead to multi-metre sea-level rise, increases in storms and climate extremes, causing devastating social disruption and economic consequences. I present some alternatives on how to handle this alarming prospect, arguing that we cannot condense our decision-making on climate change into numerical calculations, but should instead make ethical judgements.
