summary — The modern mummies and the inner meaning of the double burial in Mediterranean cultures have long been debated. In this paper we discuss a particular “collection” of ecclesiastical bodies mummifed and displayed in a small mountain town of Sicily Gangi in the Madonie Mountains. The bodies dating back to the nineteenth century mummifed by pouring in the tradition of the time and carefully dressed in robes are exposed in the lower foor of the Chiesa Madre in what the tradition is called “fossa dei parrini” (pit of priests). The mummies unlike other Sicilian and Mediterranean sites are accompanied by commemorative sonnet and death mask made of fnish wax. The primary interest of our study was aimed specifcally at this particular manifestation of the double burial complex which lies in the representation of the face. The work expresses an examination of the concept of death mask in antiquity and leads to the conclusion that the place for its scenic values ritualization should be designed to the ostentation and the consolidation of the image of the Church and of the his power within the small rural society.Settore BIO/08 - Antropologia

The present paper aims to identify the causes of under-representation of women in E-sports. According to a genre perspective, interest in videogames at the amateur level is quite similar. However, in its professional level, female participation becomes very limited. Studies on Italian reservoirs

The main morphometric and water quality characteristics of the 221 Italian reservoirs covering an area of at least 0.2 km2 is given. Most of the reservoirs are used for drinking water purposes, especially on the islands of Sicily and Sardinia, where the more important cases of eutrophication have been found. These situations are examined in greater detail, with regard to algal population dynamics, the phosphorus budget and the comparison between theoretical and experimental nutrients loads. -from Authors

Neuronal effects of Sugammadex in combination with Rocuronium or Vecuronium.

Rocuronium (ROC) and Vecuronium (VEC) are the most currently used steroidal non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking (MNB) agents. Sugammadex (SUG) rapidly reverses steroidal NMB agents after anaesthesia. The present study was conducted in order to evaluate neuronal effects of SUG alone and in combination with both ROC and VEC. Using MTT, CASP-3 activity and Western-blot we determined the toxicity of SUG, ROC or VEC in neurons in primary culture. SUG induces apoptosis/necrosis in neurons in primary culture and increases cytochrome C (CytC), apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF), Smac/Diablo and Caspase 3 (CASP-3) protein expression. Violent Encounters : The Hobbesian State of Nature in DayZ

In his seminal work on social contract theory, Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes described the anarchic pre-societal condition of the state of nature. In this predicament – aptly named as “the war of all against all” – people lived poor, short and brutish lives. The dystopian world simulated in the survival horror game DayZ mirrors this natural state of man. The game invites players to roleplay survivors of a zombie apocalypse. The present paper examines the factors contributing to pervasive violence, moral ambiguity and degeneration of human condition, which are prominent features of DayZ’s gameplay.
