Despite the existence of multimodal therapy paradigm, high-grade gliomas (HGGs) remain devastating tumors associated with one of the worst prognoses. Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most frequent reported histologic type with a median survival, after surgery and combined treatment with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, ranging from 12 to 16 months. The poor prognosis is due to the lack of therapeutic efficacy of chemical agents and irradiation in hypoxic tumor areas. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an important metabolic disorder for which there is an urgent need for new antidiabetic drugs. α-Glucosidase inhibition is an established protocol for T2DM therapy. Because hyperglycemia causes oxidative tissue damage, the development of agents with both α-glucosidase inhibition and antioxidant activity from natural or natural-derived polyphenols such derivatives of rosmarinic acid (RA) represents an attractive therapeutic option. Unexpected Behavior of Enaminones: Interesting New Routes to 1,6-Naphthyridines, 2-Oxopyrrolidines and Pyrano[4,3,2-de][1,6]naphthyridines

Reaction of enaminones 1a–d with 2-aminoprop-1-ene-1,1,3-tricarbonitrile (2) in the presence of AcOH/NH4OAc afforded 7-amino-5-oxo-5,6-dihydro-1,6-naphthyridine-8-carbonitrile derivatives 9a–d. On the other hand, 2-aminopyrano[4,3,2-de] [1,6]naphthyridine-3-carbonitriles 20a–c,e were the only obtained products from the reactions of 1a–d with 2 in the presence of AcOH/NaOAc, while 1d afforded [3,5-bis-(4-chloro-benzoyl)-phenyl]-(4-chloro-phenyl)-methanone 21 under the same condition. Lanthanide–saccharide chemistry: synthesis and characterisation of Ce(III)–saccharide complexes

A series of nine Ce(III) complexes has been synthesised with seven different monosaccharides (D-glucose, D-fructose, D-galactose, D-mannose, L-sorbose, D-ribose and D-xylose) and two different disaccharides (D-maltose and L-lactose), and these have been characterised with various analytical, spectral, magnetic and electrochemical techniques. The NMR studies have highlighted some interesting features about the metal-ion-binding pattern of the saccharides. Crystallographic, spectroscopic and electrochemical characterization of pyridine adducts of magnesium(II) and zinc(II) porphine complexes

Abstract A new purification method of magnesium(II) and zinc(II) porphine complexes (MgP and ZnP, respectively) by crystallization of their respective pyridine adducts is described. Pure MgP and ZnP can be regenerated by removal of the coordinated pyridine ligands by heating at 200 °C under vacuum. X-ray crystallographic structures of the pyridine adducts are presented for the first time. NMR analyses of the adducts reveal the coordination of two pyridine molecules. Electrochemical as well as UV-vis absorption spectroscopy analyses in DMF of MgP·(Py)2, ZnP·(Py)2, MgP and ZnP indicate that pyridine adducts are totally dissociated. A poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether methacrylate)-block-poly(N-isopropyl methacrylamide) (POEGMA-b-PNIPMAM) block copolymer with a biotin end group on the PNIPMAM block as a biotarget was synthesized as a model system for temperature-controlled polymer immobilization.
