Observation of Poincaré-Andronov-Hopf Bifurcation in Cyclotron Maser Emission from a Magnetic Plasma Trap

2018

We report the first experimental evidence of a controlled transition from the generation of periodic bursts of electromagnetic radiation into the continuous-wave regime of a cyclotron maser formed in magnetically confined nonequilibrium plasma. The kinetic cyclotron instability of the extraordinary wave of weakly inhomogeneous magnetized plasma is driven by the anisotropic electron population resulting from electron cyclotron plasma heating in a MHD-stable minimum-B open magnetic trap. peerReviewed

Measurement of lifetimes in Fe-62,Fe-64, Co-61,Co-63, and Mn-59

2017

Lifetimes of the 4(1)(+) states in Fe-62,Fe-64 and the 11/2(1)(-) states in Co-61,Co-63 and Mn-59 were measured at the Grand Accelerateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) facility by using the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) and the large-acceptance variable mode spectrometer (VAMOS++). The states were populated through multinucleon transfer reactions with a U-238 beam impinging on a Ni-64 target, and lifetimes in the picosecond range were measured by using the recoil distance Doppler shift method. The data show an increase of collectivity in the iron isotopes approaching N = 40. The reduction of the subshell gap between the nu 2p(1/2) and nu 1g(9/2) orbitals leads to an increased popul…

D-0-(D-0)over-bar mixing in the weak-gauged U(4)(L)circle times U(4)(R) chiral Lagrangian model

1998

The D-0- mixing is analyzed in a weak gauged U(4)(L) x U(4)(R) chiral lagrangian model where the electroweak interaction is introduced as a gauge theory over the meson degrees of freedom. This model allows a particular realization of the G.I.M. mechanism and then could be useful in the study of processes where G.I.M. suppression is effective. As a test of the model we have also analyzed the K-0- mixing. We find am, in good agreement with the experimental result and we show that the D-0- mixing is very much suppressed in agreement with previous estimates in the Heavy Quark expansion framework.

Design and Study of a Wide-Band Printed Circuit Board Near-Field Probe

2021

Magnetic near-field probes (NFP) represent a suitable tool to measure the magnetic field level from a small electromagnetic interference (EMI) source. This kind of antenna is useful as a magnetic field probe for pre-compliance EMC measurements or debugging tasks since the user can scan a printed circuit board (PCB) looking for locations with strong magnetic fields. When a strong H-field point is found, the designer should check the PCB layout and components placement in that area to detect if this could result in an EMI source. This contribution focuses on analyzing the performance of an easy to build and low-cost H-field NFP designed and manufactured using a standard PCB stack-up. Thereby,…

Site symmetry approach in the supercell model of carbon-doped ZnO bulk

2017

Abstract Carbon-doped zinc oxide is one of promising materials for technological applications due to its ferromagnetism observed at room temperature. When using the hybrid DFT-HF Hamiltonian based on the PBE0 exchange-correlation functional for large-scale calculations on defective ZnO:C single crystal, we have shown that application of supercell model for carbon impurity located at O site of wurtzite-structured ZnO bulk results in the dependence of calculated formation energy of the point defect (Eform) on the selected site symmetry of the substituted atom in the supercell. For a more symmetric C3v site usually used for simulation of defective ZnO structures, values of formation energy per…

Increased conductivity of a hole transport layer due to oxidation by a molecular nanomagnet

2008

Thin film transistors based on polyarylamine poly?N,N?-diphenyl-N,N ?bis?4-hexylphenyl?- ?1,1?biphenyl?-4,4?-diamine ?pTPD? were fabricated using spin coating in order to measure the mobility of pTPD upon oxidation. Partially oxidized pTPD with a molecular magnetic cluster showed an increase in mobility of over two orders of magnitude. A transition in the mobility of pTPD upon doping could also be observed by the presence of a maximum obtained for a given oxidant ratio and subsequent decrease for a higher ratio. Such result agrees well with a previously reported model based on the combined effect of dipolar broadening of the density of states and transport manifold filling. Peer Reviewed

Au25(SEt)18 a nearly naked thiolate-protected Au25 cluster Struct. analysis by single crystal X-ray crystallograp. and electron nuclear double res

2014

X-ray crystallography has been fundamental in discovering fine structural features of ultrasmall gold clusters capped by thiolated ligands. For still unknown structures, however, new tools capable of providing relevant structural information are sought. We prepared a 25-gold atom nanocluster protected by the smallest ligand ever used, ethanethiol. This cluster displays the electrochemistry, mass spectrometry, and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy features of similar Au25 clusters protected by 18 thiolated ligands. The anionic and the neutral form of Au25(SEt)18 were fully characterized by (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopy, which confirmed the monolayer's properties and the paramagnetism of neutr…

Investigation on the microscopic structure of E' center in amorphous silicon dioxide by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy

2006

The E′δ center is one of the most important paramagnetic point defects in amorphous silicon dioxide ( a-SiO 2) primarily for applications in the field of electronics. In fact, its appearance in the gate oxide of metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) structures seriously affects the proper work of many devices and, often, causes their definitive failure. In spite of its relevance, until now a definitive microscopic model of this point defect has not been established. In the present work we review our experimental investigation by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) on the E′δ center induced in γ-ray irradiated a-SiO 2. This study has driven us to the determination of the intensity ratio between…

Carbonyl Back-Bonding Influencing the Rate of Quantum Tunnelling in a Dysprosium Metallocene Single-Molecule Magnet.

2019

The isocarbonyl-ligated metallocene coordination polymers [Cp*2M(μ-OC)W(Cp)(CO)(μ-CO)]∞ were synthesized with M = Gd (1, L = THF) and Dy (2, no L). In a zero direct-current field, the dysprosium version 2 was found to be a single-molecule magnet (SMM), with analysis of the dynamic magnetic susceptibility data revealing that the axial metallocene coordination environment leads to a large anisotropy barrier of 557(18) cm–1 and a fast quantum-tunnelling rate of ∼3.7 ms. Theoretical analysis of two truncated versions of 2, [Cp*2Dy{(μ-OC)W(Cp)(CO)2}2]− (2a), and [Cp*2Dy(OC)2]+ (2b), in which the effects of electron correlation outside the 4f orbital space were studied, revealed that tungsten-to-…

Quasi-digital conversion for resistive devices: application in GMR-based IC current sensors

2013

Resistive devices, including sensors, are used in a huge range of applications within different scenarios. When a complete system is considered, a quasi-digital output is often recommendable. If the conversion is operated at device level, some problems such as noise disturbs, insertion losses and so on, can be reduced. In this work, we describe a resistance-tofrequency (R-f) converter with a suggested application in low current monitoring by means of GiantMagnetoResistance (GMR) sensors. Specific devices have been designed and microfabricated. The system has been tested by means of discrete components with a PCB. The complete microsystem monolithic integration in a standard CMOS technology …
