Serine/threonine-kinase 33 (Stk33) – Component of the neuroendocrine network?

The present study was conducted to investigate the expression of serine/threonine-kinase 33 (Stk33) in neuronal structures of the central nervous system in rat and hamster as well as the presence of the protein in the brain of higher mammals, using a polyclonal antibody on cryosections of fixed brains. We found a distinct immunostaining pattern that included intense fluorescence of the ependymal lining of cerebral ventricles, and of hypothalamic tanycytes and their processes. The neurohypophysial peptide oxytocin (OT) and OT-like hormones facilitate reproduction in all vertebrates at several levels. The major site of OT gene expression is the magnocellular neurons of the hypothalamic paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei. In response to a variety of stimuli such as suckling, parturition, or certain kinds of stress, the processed OT peptide is released from the posterior pituitary into the systemic circulation. Low Temperature Optical Absorption by Magnons in KNiF3 and NiO Single-Crystals

Optical absorption spectra of KNiF3 and NiO stoichiometric single-crystals were measured at 5 K in the range from 4000 to 50000 cm-1. The observed bands are interpreted based on the energy levels diagram for Ni2+ (3d 8 ) ion in a cubic crystal field. The crystal-field parameter Dq is equal to 766 cm-1 in KNiF3 and 890 cm-1 in NiO. Particular attention is paid to the band due to the magnetic-dipole 3A2g(F)→3T2g(F) transition, located at 7700 cm-1 in KNiF3 and at 8900 cm-1 in NiO. Magnon mode selective spin transport in compensated ferrimagnets

We investigate the generation of magnonic thermal spin currents and their mode selective spin transport across interfaces in insulating, compensated ferrimagnet/normal metal bilayer systems. The spin Seebeck effect signal exhibits a non-monotonic temperature dependence with two sign changes of the detected voltage signals. Using different ferrimagnetic garnets, we demonstrate the universality of the observed complex temperature dependence of the spin Seebeck effect. To understand its origin, we systematically vary the interface between the ferrimagnetic garnet and the metallic layer, and by using different metal layers we establish that interface effects play a dominating role. Probing magnetism in 2D van der Waals crystalline insulators via electron tunneling

The family of layered metal halides promises varied magnetic states, including ultrathin insulating multiferroics, spin liquids, and ferromagnets, but device-oriented characterization methods are needed to unlock their potential. Information transport and processing by pure magnonic spin currents in insulators is a promising alternative to conventional charge-current-driven spintronic devices.
