Single π0 production off neutrons bound in deuteron with linearly polarized photons

The quasifree γ→d→π0n(p) photon beam asymmetry, Σ, has been measured at photon energies, Eγ, from 390 to 610 MeV, corresponding to center of mass energy from 1.271 to 1.424 GeV, for the first time. The data were collected in the A2 hall of the MAMI electron beam facility with the Crystal Ball and TAPS calorimeters covering pion center-of-mass angles from 49∘ to 148∘. In this kinematic region, polarization observables are sensitive to contributions from the Δ(1232) and N(1440) resonances. The extracted values of Σ have been compared to predictions based on partial-wave analyses (PWAs) of the existing pion photoproduction database. As one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, German is not any way a uniform from of communication. The present contribution will deal with German in Silesia particularly the German spoken in the Upper Silesian language island (Sprachinsel) of Kostenthal (Gościęcin). Following an introduction to the historical development of this language island. I will present several particularities of this German variety. The idiosyncrasies of the base dialect of Kostenthal that are reflected in the predominant German Umgangssprache spoken locally today will then be shown.

La recherche présentée s’intéresse plus particulièrement à un aspect particulier de la professionnalisation : l’accompagnement. Dans les déclarations des formateurs en IUFM, nous avons identifié cinq dimensions de l’accompagnement en relation avec le rapport au savoir : rapport à l’institution, à l’autre, à sa pratique, aux savoirs et à l’expérience antérieure. Si cette dernière dimension revêt un caractère important dans les choix et les pratiques d’accompagnement, nos résultats montrent que les définitions de l’accompagnement sont hétérogènes avec des modalités de mises en oeuvre différentes selon les sujets qui s’appuient bien souvent sur les expériences professionnelles antérieures à la…

Effective charge from lattice QCD

Using lattice configurations for quantum chromodynamics (QCD) generated with three domain-wall fermions at a physical pion mass, we obtain a parameter-free prediction of QCD's renormalisation-group-invariant process-independent effective charge, $\hat\alpha(k^2)$. Owing to the dynamical breaking of scale invariance, evident in the emergence of a gluon mass-scale, this coupling saturates at infrared momenta: $\hat\alpha(0)/\pi=0.97(4)$. Discrete exterior calculus for photonic crystal waveguides

The discrete exterior calculus (DEC) is very promising, though not yet widely used, discretization method for photonic crystal (PC) waveguides. It can be seen as a generalization of the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The DEC enables efficient time evolution by construction and fits well for nonhomogeneous computational domains and obstacles of curved surfaces. These properties are typically present in applications of PC waveguides that are constructed as periodic structures of inhomogeneities in a computational domain. We present a two-dimensional DEC discretization for PC waveguides and demonstrate it with a selection of numerical experiments typical in the application area. …
