Gini index, inequality comparisons and maximim axiom : a paradox
1999
Inequality is appreciated only through a relevant measure, traditionally the Gini index, but this one presents a weakness that prevents to consider it as valid: to a same Gini may correspond many distributions. For the most simple case, a concentration curve with two linear segments, a criterion is proposed, based on the maximin: beside curves with same Gini, the more egalitarian is those in which each poor has the higher revenue. However, this does not allow to decide for two curves with different Gini: two indeterminate zones appear. This is extended to curves with three linear segments and two kinks.
A biproportional measure of multidimensional inequality
1999
Bradburd and Ross have proposed a measure of multidimensional inequality based on a quadratic-loss criterion: one matrix is compared to another even if they have not the same margins. This is reconsidered. One removes the effect of size variation between the analyzed distribution and the reference distribution by giving to the two matrices the same margins with a biproportional operator. The size differences inside the analyzed structure are removed by a bimarkovian biproportional operator. As homogeneity does not signify equality, the homogeneous reference structure is replaced by a uniform matrix to be compared to the first matrix.
Mainstream educational enrollment for students with SEN in the EU
2018

Solving a model for the evolution of smoking habit in Spain with homotopy analysis method
2013
We obtain an approximated analytical solution for a dynamic model for the prevalence of the smoking habit in a constant population but with equal and different from zero birth and death rates. This model has been successfully used to explain the evolution of the smoking habit in Spain. By means of the Homotopy Analysis Method, we obtain an analytic expression in powers of time t which reproduces the correct solution for a certain range of time. To enlarge the domain of convergence we have applied the so-called optimal convergence-control parameter technique and the homotopy-Padé technique. We present and discuss graphical results for our solutions. ©
A randomized controlled trial of high-dose maintenance interferon therapy in chronic hepatitis C
1997
In chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, the rate of sustained response to interferon is low. We evaluated, in patients responding to a 26-week course of interferon, the effect of high-dose maintenance therapy in preventing relapse. Three hundred and ten patients with chronic HCV infection (38.3% with cirrhosis, 80.6% with HCV type 1) received interferon alfa-2b for 26 weeks (10 MU tiw for 8 weeks, then 5 MU tiw for 18 weeks). One hundred and twenty-four subjects (40%) normalized aminotransferases, and were allocated randomly either to continue on 5 MU tiw for a further 26 weeks (prolonged therapy group: 60 patients) or to stop interferon (brief therapy group: 64 patients). Fifty-two w…
O26 Population pharmacokinetic meta-analysis of individual data to design the first randomized efficacy trial of vancomycin in neonates and young Inf…
2019
BackgroundIn the absence of consensus, the present meta-analysis was performed to determine an optimal dosing regimen of vancomycin for neonates.MethodsA ‘meta-model’ using NONMEM with 4894 concentrations from 1631 neonates was built and Monte Carlo simulations were performed to design an optimal intermittent infusion, aiming at reaching a target AUC0-24 of 400 mg*h/L at steady state in at least 80% of neonates.ResultsA two-compartment model best fitted the data. Current weight, post-menstrual age (PMA) and serum creatinine were the significant covariates for clearance (CL). After model validation, simulations showed that a loading dose (25 mg/kg) and a maintenance dose (15 mg/kg twice dail…
Students with Severe, Permanent Disabilities and Their Educational Inclusion in Spain
2014
This article analyses the educational inclusion of students with severe and permanent disabilities in the different autonomous communities of the Spanish State. After describing the Spanish socio-economic context, a comparative analysis is carried out based on the following indicators: the conception of severe, permanent disabilities; the regulation framework; responsibility of schooling and provision of services; identification and assessment of flaws; incidence in the population; curricular proposals (model and modalities of support); specific centers and units; human and material resources; the role of families and funding. The analysis of the implemented policies concludes by pointing o…
Wpływ handlu zagranicznego Unii Europejskiej na rzeczywistą emisję CO2
2016
On the computational aspects of a symmetric multidomain BEM for elastoplastic analysis
2012
The symmetric boundary element method (SBEM) is applied to the elasto-plastic analysis of bodies subdivided into substructures. This methodology is based on the use of: a multidomain SBEMapproach, for the evaluation of the elastic predictor; a return mapping algorithm based on the extremal paths theory, for the evaluation of inelastic quantities characterizing the plastic behaviour of each substructure; and a transformation of the domain inelastic integrals of each substructure into corresponding boundary integrals. The elastic analysis is performed by using the SBEM displacement approach, which has the advantage of creating system equations that only consist of nodal kinematical unknowns a…
