Semantic web service discovery system for road traffic information services
2015
Create a multi-agent platform for a traveller information system (FIPA standards).Extend Paulucci algorithm with the use of seven similarity measures.Weight the similarity measure according to semantic relation and parameter nature.Improved running-time with a filtering pre-process for non-functional parameters.Improved the recall by measuring the sibling relationship concepts. We describe a multi-agent platform for a traveller information system, allowing travellers to find the road traffic information web service (WSs) that best fits their requirements. After studying existing proposals for discovery of semantic WS, we implemented a hybrid matching algorithm, which is described in detail …
Self-service Ad-hoc Querying Using Controlled Natural Language
2016
The ad-hoc querying process is slow and error prone due to inability of business experts of accessing data directly without involving IT experts. The problem lies in complexity of means used to query data. We propose a new natural language- and semistar ontology-based ad-hoc querying approach which lowers the steep learning curve required to be able to query data. The proposed approach would significantly shorten the time needed to master the ad-hoc querying and to gain the direct access to data by business experts, thus facilitating the decision making process in enterprises, government institutions and other organizations.
Chemical Correlations Between Industrial Curds and Final Cheeses. Can Cheesemakers Standardise Productions?
2016
The chemical composition of milks and curds influences the microbial ecology and chemical features of produced cheeses. This statement is quite obvious because ‘normal’ cheeses—products with a prevailing ingredient, milk—are obtained by means of the transformation of the main raw material and the addition of minor components. Because of the possible scarcity of readily available milk in many regions or economic areas, the industry of milk and dairy products, including cheeses, has improved the production of ready-to-use curds. These products, also named ‘industrial curds’, are produced exclusively for further cheesemaking processes. For this reason, ready-to-use curds are pre-packaged with …
Managerial understanding and attitudes towards beyond budgeting in Ukraine
2019
In order to find out how Ukrainian practitioners understand and evaluate management control innovation - beyond budgeting - this study examines their attitudes towards this concept and meanings they attach to it in the process of learning and sensemaking. Results show how the content and meaning of novel management innovation is reinterpreted and negotiated in new institutional context. Empirical evidences support the central statement of institutional theory, namely a replacement of practice's former technical functions by institutional facts, specific symbolic meanings and collective understandings. The findings reported serve to demonstrate the gradual replacement of brute facts and empi…
Updating the OSPF routing protocol for communication networks by optimal decision-making over the k-shortest path algorithm
2019
Internet routing protocols such as Routing Information Protocol (RIP) pre-compute all the shortest paths by Dijkstra's algorithm (shortest path first, SPF) based on the number of hops between one node and another. Every time any communication is intended, RIP looks-up for the optimal choice in a routing table. This is a high speed method in the decision-making process but not necessary fast for data traffic as it does not take into account any real-time measure of route congestion. Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) presents a dynamic version of this problem by computing the shortest paths taking into account network features such as bandwidth, delay and load. OSPF thereby maintains link-state…
Il processo decisionale online: rassegna di studi empirici e confronto tra Siti Internet per l'Aiuto alle Decisioni negli Stati Uniti e in Europa
2005
With the advent of the Internet, decision making researchers have extended their research scope from traditional "offline" contexts to the increasingly more common "online" decision environment. At the same time, on the Web an increasing number of "decision-facilitating websites" have appeared - spaces finalized to help users make "online" decisions. In the present work we a) present and discuss the most important decision facilitating websites; b) review the main results obtained by the fledgling field of Web-based decision research.
'What can I do? Any tips?' Online communities and agoraphobia, an open channel for shared participation in management of medical treatment
2021
Can Attention and Working Memory Impairments of Intimate Partner Perpetrators Explain Their Risky Decision Making?
2018
Intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetrators commonly exhibit deficits in a wide range of cognitive domains, such as attention, memory, and executive functions. Executive dysfunctions tend to be related to a preference for disadvantageous decisions, which could be explained by a pattern of focusing on positive outcomes (gains) while disregarding negative ones. Nonetheless, it is less clear whether risk-taking and decision-making problems should be attributed to motivational and/or emotional causes or to cognitive deficits in attention and/or working memory. The main goal of the present study was to examine whether IPV perpetrators can be distinguished from non-violent controls based on the…
How to Measure Propensity to Take Risks in the Italian Context: The Italian Validation of the Risk Propensity Scale
2021
Risk propensity is a multifaced construct that influences many aspects of life, such as decision making. In the present study, the psychometric characteristics of the Risk Propensity Scale (RPS) have been explored for the first time in an Italian sample. The RPS is a 7 item self-report questionnaire measuring people’s tendency to take risks. The English RPS has been translated following the forward–backwards translation method, and it was filled out by 199 participants. Since its dimensionality has never been explored before, its factor structure has been analysed with exploratory factor analysis that confirmed the one-factor structure of the questionnaire and the retention of all the item…
Learning cultural literacy through creative practices in schools cultural and multimodal approaches to meaning-making
2022
Introduction: Cultural Literacy and Creativity -- A Sociocultural Approach to Children’s Visual Creations -- Multimodality: Art as a Meaning-Making Process -- Tolerance, Empathy, and Inclusion -- Living Together -- Social Responsibility -- Belonging and Home -- Cultural Literacy During COVID-19 -- Conclusions: Cultural Literacy in Action -- Index. This open access book discusses how cultural literacy can be taught and learned through creative practices. It approaches cultural literacy as a dialogic social process based on learning and gaining knowledge through emphatic, tolerant, and inclusive interaction. The book focuses on meaning-making in children and young people’s visual and multimod…
