Large diurnal variation of intraocular pressure in open angle glaucoma in subjects with type A behaviour pattern

2014

Aim : To evaluate the possible causes of the greater perimetric damage found in OAG subjects with type A behaviour and the possible role of psycho-physiological stress. Materials and methods : 80 patients with OAG, 44 women and 36 men, 40 with type A behaviour and 40 with type B studied with the Type A/B Personality Questionnaire (A modified version of the Jenkins Activity Survey), underwent a complete ophthalmologic examination consisting of bio-microscopy, tonometry and daily tonometric curve, examination of the visual field by means of Octopus 1-2-3 computerised perimeter and its assessment with the Glaucoma Staging System 2 (GSS2), morphological monitoring of the Retinal Nerve Fibre Lay…

PERSEUS-IT 24-month analysis: a prospective observational study to assess the effectiveness of intravitreal aflibercept in routine clinical practice …

2022

Abstract Purpose PERSEUS-IT (NCT02289924) was a prospective, observational, 2-year study evaluating the effectiveness and treatment patterns of intravitreal aflibercept (IVT-AFL) in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) in routine clinical practice in Italy. Methods Treatment-naïve patients with nAMD receiving IVT-AFL per routine clinical practice were enrolled. The primary endpoint was mean change in visual acuity (VA; decimals) from baseline to month (M) 12 and M24. Outcomes were evaluated for the overall study population and independently for the 2 treatment cohorts: regular (3 initial monthly doses, ≥ 7 injections by M12, and ≥ 4 injections between M12 and M2…

Ortodonzia estetica: vantaggi e limiti della tecnica Invisalign

2013

Anatomic Posterolateral Knee Reconstructions Require a Popliteofibular Ligament Reconstruction Through a Tibial Tunnel

2010

Background: No biomechanical study has been performed analyzing the merits of reconstructing the popliteofibular ligament (PFL) through a tibial tunnel with an anatomic reconstruction of the posterolateral knee. Hypothesis: There is no difference in an anatomic posterolateral knee reconstruction with or without a PFL reconstruction placed through a tibial tunnel in restoring knee motion to the intact, uninjured state, and the knee is not overconstrained with this reconstruction. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Eight paired knees were tested in the intact state and then sectioned to simulate a grade III posterolateral knee injury. The reconstruction for the first paired …

Medium-term Culture of Normal Human Oral Mucosa: A Novel Three-dimensional Model to Study the Effectiveness of Drugs Administration

2012

Tissue-engineered oral mucosal equivalents have been developed for in vitro studies for a few years now. However, the usefulness of currently available models is still limited by many factors, mainly the lack of a physiological extracellular matrix (ECM) and the use of cell populations that do not reflect the properly differentiated cytotypes of the mucosa of the oral cavity. For this reason, we have developed a novel three-dimensional culture model reflecting the normal architecture of the human oral mucosa, with the main aim of creating a better in vitro model where to test cellular responses to drugs administration. This novel 3D cell culture model (3D outgrowth) was set up using an arti…

LEFT VENTRICULAR HYPERTROPHY IN HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS WITH NORMAL ELECTROCARDIOGRAM

2011

Objective: In hypertensive patients the presence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is associated with increased cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality. Unfortunately electrocardiogram (ECG) has a low sensitivity in detecting LVH, while echocardiography cannot be routinely and extensively performed in all hypertensive patients. In this study we evaluated the prevalence of LVH and of anomalies of diastolic function in a group of hypertensive patients with normal ECG, and free of diabetes and CV diseases. Design and Methods: Patients with CV diseases, diabetes, chronic kidney disease (CKD), electrocardiographic LVH (Sokolow-Lyons or Cornell criterion) or “strain” were excluded. We enr…

T Cell Large Granular Lymphocytic Leukemia in Association with Sjögren’s Syndrome

2009

T cell large granular lymphocytic (LGL) leukemia is a rare condition accounting for 2–3% of all mature lymphoid leukemias. Here, we present the case of a 73-year-old woman presenting with neutropenia and anemia (hemoglobin 9.9 g/dl). Hematological assessment revealed the presence of a T cell LGL leukemia. At the time of T cell LGL leukemia diagnosis, the patient developed xerophthalmia and xerostomia, and a diagnosis of Sjögren’s syndrome was made following salivary gland biopsy. The finding of large granular lymphocytes in the context of autoimmune disorders is well-known, though it often occurs with rheumatoid arthritis or in association with a positive autoantibody titer in the absence o…

Human Papillomavirus Infection: A Risk Factor for Oral and Oropharyngeal Cancers

2020

A wide range of human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence data is now available for head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs), especially for those cancers originating from the epithelial lining of the upper aero-digestive tract (UADT) (i.e., the pharynx, the larynx, and the oral cavity). There is strong evidence that supports HPV as an etiological cause of head and neck carcinogenesis particularly for distinct oropharyngeal subsites. A specific molecular, histopathological, clinical, and prognostic profile is intimately connected with HPV infection. While the role of HPV in oropharyngeal carcinogenesis is firmly acknowledged, its role in oral cancer is currently being debated. Several re…
