The evolution of the male sexworking towards new digital scenarios
2021
The aim of this contribution is to show some features of the male sex worker in the last century, since the pathologisation of the prostitution to the full digitalisation of the sexual esplicit media. Today a lot of male sex workers have the chance to shake the stigma off and achieve a new respectable status in some subcultures.
A sociology of queer implications? Methodological inquietudes and ethical involvements in the study of non-normative sexualities
2018
The article represents an epistemological and methodological enquiry on the use of qualitative research methods, and specifically ethnographical practice, in the study of non-normative sexualities. It will take mainly into account a series of ethnographic observations of an ongoing research project on male sex work in southern Italy.

Influence of the Preoperative Decision-Making Process on the Postoperative Outcome after Hysterectomy for Benign Uterine Pathologies.
2016
Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess whether the preoperative decision-making process might influence treatment success in premenopausal women undergoing hysterectomy for benign uterine pathologies Materials and Methods: All premenopausal women treated with hysterectomy for benign uterine pathologies between April 2011 and June 2013 at a tertiary university center were enrolled in this prospective observational cohort study. Five parameters of the preoperative decision-making process were assessed upon their correlation with postoperative quality of life, sexual function and patientsʼ satisfaction. These outcome measures were assessed for the pre- and postoperative (six months …

Concordancia de las escalas REGICOR y SCORE para la identificación del riesgo cardiovascular alto en la población española
2007
Introduction. The aims of this study were to evaluate the consistency between the SCORE (Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation) and REGICOR (Registre Gironi del Cor) scales in identifying high cardiovascular risk and to describe the characteristics of those individuals for whom scale results were discrepant. Methods. This cross-sectional study involved 8942 subjects aged 40-65 years who had an indication for a complete lipid profile. The agreement between SCORE (for low-risk countries) and Framingham-REGICOR (with a high risk threshold of 10%) scales in classifying patients as high risk was evaluated using the kappa statistic. Subjects for whom there was a discrepancy between classifications …
Descriptive Dermoscopic Study of Depigmentation in Melanocytic Nevi Without a Visible Halo
2011
Background and objectives: There are few cases described in the literature in which depigmentation of melanocytic nevi occurs without the appearance of halos. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between clinical and dermoscopic findings and to assess the usefulness of dermoscopy to identify possible markers of complete regression in melanocytic lesions. Materials and methods: A prospective, observational, descriptive study of 77 melanocytic lesions in 52 patients was undertaken over a 5-year period. Melanocytic lesions from patients who underwent periodic follow-up in the digital dermoscopy unit were analyzed if they had exhibited partial or total, permanent depigmentation …
Five-year change in refractive error and its risk factors: results from the Gutenberg Health Study.
2021
Background/AimsTo examine the 5-year change in refractive error in phakic eyes and its risk factors in the general population.MethodsThe Gutenberg Health Study (GHS) is a population-based cohort study including 15 010 participants from Germany aged 35–74 years at baseline examination (2007–2012). After 5 years, a follow-up examination was carried out (83% participation). 5-year change of spherical equivalent (SE) was computed as difference between follow-up and baseline objective refraction. Linear and logistic regression analysis were conducted analysing potential risk factors. Only phakic eyes at follow-up examination were included.ResultsRight eyes of 10 175 subjects were included. An ag…
The Female Sex Confers Different Prognosis in Heart Failure: Same Mortality but More Readmissions
2021
Introduction: Heart failure (HF) is a major cause of morbimortality both in men and women. Differences between sex in etiopathogenesis, response to treatment, and quality of care have been found in patients with HF. Females are usually under-represented in clinical trials and there is no solid evidence demonstrating the influence of sex in the prognostic of chronic HF. The primary objective of this study was to analyse the differences in mortality and probability of hospital readmission between males and females with HF. The secondary objective was to compare mortality and probability of hospital readmission by ejection fraction (reduced vs. preserved). Methods: Patients with decompensated H…
The search for novel avenues for the therapy and prevention of Alzheimer's disease.
2006
The prevention and therapy of neurodegenerative disorders in the elderly is one of the greatest challenges facing molecular medicine today. Alzheimer's is an excellent example of a disease being studied by many groups worldwide. Indeed, while many molecular details of this disorder have been elucidated in the last two decades, there are still no strictly causal therapies available. While certain symptomatic pharmacological treatments are frequently employed, current molecular medicine research is focused on central Alzheimer-associated biochemical changes to find the key switch that turns the detrimental Alzheimer process on. Although amyloid beta proteins and tau proteins are the focus of …
