Human Digital Twins in Acquiring Information About Human Mental Processes for Cognitive Mimetics
2022
Modern information technology makes it possible to redesign the ways people work. In the future, machines can carry out intelligence-requiring tasks, which previously were done by people. It is thus good to develop methodologies for designing intelligent systems. An example of such methods is cognitive mimetics, i.e. imitating human information processing. Today, machines cannot by themselves navigate in archipelagos. However, the fact that people can take care of ship steering and navigation means that there is an information process, which makes it possible to navigate ships. This information process takes place inside the minds of navigating people. If we are able to explicate the inform…

Computing Requirements : Cognitive Approaches to Distributed Requirements Engineering
2012
We present a study of on the goal-oriented modeling of RE processes executed by a practicing systems development team. The research combines an empirical case study of RE practices with the evaluation and simulation capability of i* modeling. Our analysis focuses on a system implementation project at a mid-size U.S. university and applies the theory of distributed cognition to generate a range of design insights for goal identification and process enhancement. peerReviewed
Understanding altered contractile properties in advanced age : insights from a systematic muscle modelling approach
2023
Age-related alterations of skeletal muscle are numerous and present inconsistently, and the effect of their interaction on contractile performance can be nonintuitive. Hill-type muscle models predict muscle force according to well-characterised contractile phenomena. Coupled with simple, yet reasonably realistic activation dynamics, such models consist of parameters that are meaningfully linked to fundamental aspects of muscle excitation and contraction. We aimed to illustrate the utility of a muscle model for elucidating relevant mechanisms and predicting changes in output by simulating the individual and combined effects on isometric force of several known ageing-related adaptations. Simu…
The “Seili-index” For The Prediction of Chlorophyll-α Levels In The Archipelago Sea of The Northern Baltic Sea, Southwest Finland
2021
AbstractTo build a forecasting tool for the state of eutrophication in the Archipelago Sea, we fitted a Generalized Additive Mixed Model (GAMM) to marine environmental monitoring data, which were collected over the years 2011–2019 by an automated profiling buoy at the Seili ODAS-station. The resulting “Seili-index” can be used to predict the chlorophyll-α (chl-a) concentration in the seawater a number of days ahead by using the temperature forecast as a covariate. An array of test predictions with two separate models on the 2019 data set showed that the index is adept at predicting the amount of chl-a especially in the upper water layer. The visualization with 10 days of chl-a level predict…
Modelling contexts in cross-cultural communication environments
2011
In our research, context is defined as a situation a user has at hand. The focus in our study is on modelling contexts in cross-cultural communication environments. These environments can be physical, virtual or hybrid. Crosscultural communication environment – user – situation is the key triplet in our context research. In our paper we discuss context as a key to situation-specific computing. We introduce our cross-cultural communication context tree and context flow architecture and an example of implementation i.e. Context-Based eAssistant for Cross-Cultural Communication (CeACCC). peerReviewed
Biological basis of bone strength : Anatomy, physiology and measurement
2020
Understanding how bones are innately designed, robustly developed and delicately maintained through intricate anatomical features and physiological processes across the lifespan is vital to inform our assessment of normal bone health, and essential to aid our interpretation of adverse clinical outcomes affecting bone through primary or secondary causes. Accordingly this review serves to introduce new researchers and clinicians engaging with bone and mineral metabolism, and provide a contemporary update for established researchers or clinicians. Specifically, we describe the mechanical and non-mechanical functions of the skeleton; its multidimensional and hierarchical anatomy (macroscopic, m…
Vuokratyöyritysten tietojärjestelmät vuorovaikutuksen työkaluina
2015
Tutkimuksen konstruktiivinen osuus tote…
Luurankolihassolun glykolyysin simulointi differentiaaliyhtälöillä
2015
Solun aineenvaihduntaa on hankala tutkia. Simulointi voi olla eräs ratkaisu ongelmaan. Tutkielma tarkastelee differentiaaliyhtälöihin perustuvaa luurankolihaksen glykolyysin simuloimista. Siihen on kehitetty 2000-luvulla glykolyysin reaktioiden empiirisiin mittaustuloksiin perustuvia malleja. Differentiaaliyhtälömallit soveltuvat hyvin simuloimiseen, ja suurinpana ongelmana voidaan pitää parametrien saatavuutta ja epävarmuutta. Cell metabolism is difficult to investigate. Simulation can be one solution to the problem. This thesis examines differential equation based simulation of skeletal muscle glycolysis. For simulation, in 2000s it has been developed models based on empirical measurement…
Liiketoimintaprosessien hallinta - hyödyt ja haasteet
2009
Kemppainen, Virpi Liiketoimintaprosessien hallinta (BPM) hyödyt ja haasteet / Virpi Kemppainen Jyväskylä, Jyväskylän yliopisto, 2009, 28 s. Kandidaatintutkielma Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on luoda kokonaiskuva liiketoimintaprosessin hallinnasta (BPM). Liiketoimintaprosessien hallinnalla tarkoitetaan mallia, jossa liiketoiminnan hyötyjä pyritään kasvattamaan tutkimalla ja analysoimalla prosesseja iteroinnin kautta, kunnes saavutetaan haluttu lopputulos. BPM:n käytön keskeisenä tarkoituksena on taata organisaation eri sidosryhmien osallistuminen liiketoiminnan parantamiseen sekä yhteisen kielen löytäminen näiden sidosryhmien välille. Tämä tutkielma on tyyliltään kuvaileva kirjallisuustut…
