Xerostomia induced by radiotherapy: an overview of the physiopathology, clinical evidence, and management of the oral damage

Background: The irradiation of head and neck cancer (HNC) often causes damage to the salivary glands. The resulting salivary gland hypofunction and xerostomia seriously reduce the patient’s quality of life. Purpose: To analyze the literature of actual management strategies for radiation-induced hypofunction and xerostomia in HNC patients. Methods: MEDLINE/PubMed and the Cochrane Library databases were electronically evaluated for articles published from January 1, 1970, to June 30, 2013. Rational Herding in Reward-Based Crowdfunding: An MTurk Experiment.

Crowdfunding is gaining popularity as a way of financing social sustainable initiatives. We performed a controlled economic experiment in MTurk by simulating a crowdfunding platform and developed a theoretical model that rationalizes herding behavior. The experiment was designed to test and quantify the causal effects of revealing specific information to prospective backers: (i) the number of early contributors already financing the project and (ii) positive opinions of other backers versus those of experts. The results show that early contributions to the campaign and positive opinions of peers act as a reinforcing signal to potential backers and affect backers&rsquo
Izdegšanas un stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģiju saistības strādājošiem un nestrādājošiem studentiem

Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot vai pastāv izdegšanas un stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģiju rādītāju statistiski nozīmīga saistība strādājošu un nestrādājošu studentu grupās. Pētījumā piedalījās 100 respondenti (N=100), vecumā no 17 līdz 55 gadiem, no tiem 60 sievietes un 40 vīrieši. Pētījuma gaitā, respondenti tika iedalīti 2 grupās (katrā grupā 50 respondenti). 50 respondenti, kuri tikai studē un 50 respondenti, kuri studē un strādā. Kā mērinstrumenti tikai izmantota akadēmiskās izdegšanas aptauja studentiem un stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģiju aptauja. Respondentiem tika lūgts aizpildīt aptauju elektroniski.
