Between a rock and a hard place : middle managers' ethical decision making and behaviour in the organisational context

The aim of the research is to develop a new framework for ethical decision-making and behaviour by combining prior theories and empirical knowledge. Behind the curtain of international diversification: An agency theory perspective
2018
This paper dissects the antecedents of international diversification through the lens of the agency cost of free cash flow arguments. It explores whether the partial convergence of interests among managers, majority shareholders, and minority shareholders affects a firm's choice to diversify internationally. Using a sample panel of 60 Italian firms evaluated longitudinally from 2004 to 2014, the study tests whether a firm's international diversification is affected by its free cash flow (as the ultimate source of managerial discretion) and debt (as the main constraint to managerial discretion), especially in firm contexts that exacerbate agency problems. We find that the effects on internat…

Recruitments in Finnish universities: practicing strategic or pathetic HRM?
2016
Recruitment is a core instrument in the academic labour market. This article takes the perspective of the organisation − here, the university − on recruitment. Universities’ personnel policies and practises are shifting from legally oriented personnel administration to more strategic human resource management (HRM). In Nordic countries, this shift is partly driven by the changing status of higher education institutions from state-governed bureaus to more autonomous institutions. This article provides insight into this transition, using Finland as a case example of higher education systems that have undergone drastic reform, moving from a civil servant model to autonomous personnel policy. MODELING MANAGERIAL ACTIVITY, A CHALLENGE OR A NEED INTO THE INTERCONECTED ECONOMIC SPACE
2009
In the European economic area, which becomes more and more interconnected, the management system provides ways of obtaining a performance which, on changing the size of the firm, sometimes prove to be inadequate. During that lapse of time from triggering the action when the results can be measured should be as small continuously decreasing. The information required to be used in the decision support are required more avid. The manager will use different models for measurements of indicators of discrete evaluation, but it proves that not to be the best solution. Only the availability of this information will enable them to make better decisions, and by changing the way of how the decision ma…
