Choice models in nordic long-term care : care managers' experiences of privilege and disadvantage among older adults

2022

AbstractConsumer choice models have been introduced in eldercare services in several Western welfare societies. Choice models in eldercare emphasise the importance of individuals’ abilities to make informed choices and therefore entail a risk for increased inequalities among older adults with care needs. In the Nordic countries, such inequality risks are in stark contrast to universal policy ambitions of equal access to care services. Care managers, who are responsible for needs assessment for eldercare services, have a central role in implementing policies and, thus, have first-hand experience of their impact on older adults’ access to care. The aim of this study was to explore care manage…

From Healthcare Manager's Competencies to Helthcare Organization's Competences

2017

Competency identification systems need to identify both – personal (mostly managerial/leadership) competencies and organizational competences. This article is focused on identification the common competencies of healthcare managers significantly shaping core competences of such organizations. There are many models of healthcare managerial competencies – three of them are presented in this article. First is Competency Task Force (The Healthcare Leadership Alliance approach), second – Competency Directory Model (The Global Consortium for Healthcare Management Professionalization approach) and third - NCHL Competency Model (created by The National Center for Healthcare Leadership). 2020

Maģistra darbā tiek apskatīti nosacījumi labas IT pārvaldības nodrošināšanai, vadoties pēc ITIL pamatprincipiem. Darbā tiek praktiski analizēti IT pārvaldības nodrošināšanas paņēmieni trīs reālos uzņēmumos. Analīzes rezultātā tiek veidoti un ieviesti pielāgojumi uzņēmumos esošajiem rīkiem, lai nodrošinātu IT pārvaldības atbilstību ITIL labajai praksei, un praktiski izstrādāti pielāgojumi, kuru ieviešanu var plānot nākotnē. Pielāgojumu plānošanas un ieviešanas rezultāti darba noslēgumā pamato ITIL rīku nepieciešamību un to pielāgošanu veiksmīgas IT pārvaldības nodrošināšanai uzņēmumos. Gan darba teorētiskās, gan praktiskās daļas pamatā ir izmantotas ITIL labās prakses vadlīnijas.

Aligning Two Specifications for Controlling Information Security

2014

Assuring information security is a necessity in modern organizations. Many recommendations for information security management exist, which can be used to define a baseline of information security requirements. ISO/ IEC 27001 prescribes a process for an information security management system, and guidance to implement security controls is provided in ISO/IEC 27002. Finnish National Security Auditing Criteria (KATAKRI) has been developed by the national authorities in Finland as a tool to verify maturity of information security practices. KATAKRI defines both security control objectives and security controls to meet an objective. Here the authors compare and align these two specifications in…

À la recherche du lien perdu entre caractéristiques des dirigeants et performance de la firme : gouvernance et latitude managériale

2008

Upper Echelons Theory and financial governance theory both postulate that CEOs have a determining influence on the performance with, however, a very significant difference concerning the influence of managerial discretion. For the first one, managerial discretion has a potentially positive influence on performance by enabling the managers' cognitive capacities to affect it, for the second one, a negative influence, insofar as it can lead to decisions conflicting with shareholders' interests. The objective of this article is, on the one hand, to compare the contents and the role of the managerial discretion concept within these two theoretical frameworks, on the other hand, to propose, in th…

Managerial Behavior in the Lab: Information Disclosure, Decision Process and Leadership Style

2019

This paper reports the results from a lab experiment in which subjects playing the manager role can implement either an efficient / inegalitarian allocation or an inefficient / egalitarian allocation of payoffs. The experiment simulates a stylized managerial context by allowing the manager to manipulate information and select the decision process and by allowing the stakeholders to retaliate against the manager given different choices in the decision process. We found that the inefficient allocation is often selected and that this choice depends on whether the employees can retaliate against the manager and on whether the manager can hide information about the payoffs. The social preference…

Competency needs among managers from Spanish hotels and restaurants and their training demands

2003

Abstract This study aims to: (1) identify managerial competency needs in the Spanish hospitality industry, (2) to differentiate present and future training demands requested by managers, and (3) to identify the relationship between managerial competency needs and training demands. The sample was made up of 80 Spanish hotel and restaurant managers. Results show technical managerial competency needs mainly in computing, languages, and economic–financial management. Generic managerial competency needs appear mostly in job performance efficacy and self-control and social relationships. Changes in personal work goals in relation to the psychosocial work environment: A two-year follow-up study

2011

Associations between changes in the psychosocial work environment and changes in personal work goals were investigated in a two-wave, two-year longitudinal study. Psychosocial work environment was studied within the context of the Effort–Reward Imbalance model (ERI; Siegrist, 1996). The participants consisted of 423 young Finnish managers. Their most important personal work goals were categorized into seven content categories of competence, progression, well-being, job change, job security, organization, and finance at both measurement times. There were differences, especially in changes in the career opportunities factor of reward, between participants whose goals changed during the study.…

Project driven orders managing practices in Polish construction industry

2014

Contemporary enterprises, focused on external business environment, define their strategic targets, with regard to the context of market and customer requirements. Their internal organization form should aim towards transformations, driven by global economic, political and social processes. This further involves rejecting of existing stereotypes, distribution of tasks and functions performance, as well as a possibility to adapt in response to environment variations, being well exemplified by project driven organizations. Management of individual single orders in enterprises with functional structures can be treated as “project driven orders” management. The orders may have manufacturing or …

Manager gender, entrepreneurial orientation and SMEs export and import propensities: evidence for Spanish businesses

2022

This paper investigates the role of manager gender in SMEs’ decisions to get involved in exporting and importing activities, using a sample of 1,405 Spanish SMEs. We borrow insights from international entrepreneurship theories and feminist theories to set testable hypotheses regarding how managerial gender and entrepreneurial orientation (proactiveness, risk-taking and innovativeness) may influence SMEs export and import propensities. Using a bivariate probit model and controlling for other managerial and business characteristics, results reveal that there are not significant disparities in exporting propensities between men- and women-run businesses. However, female-led SMEs show a lower i…
