To Rule the City. Valencia City Council from Dictatorship to Democracy. A case study (1969-1979)
2013
To contribute to the debate on the process of transition to democracy, this research aims at the analysis of the City Counciland Transit tardofranquismo since the death of dictator Francisco Franco until the first democratic elections. Franco Municipalities strongly marked by the figure of the mayor, president of the corporation and visible head of the power of the dictatorship in the municipality, have been little studied by historians, partly because of the transitional political model prevailing until recent years. This requires rebuild historiographical vacuum, first, a state of affairs that we analyzed but also indicated gaps. Second, we draw the overall picture of the two largest muni…
Audit Regulation, Auditor Industry Expertise and Effects on Audit Pricing
2018
The diversity of regulations that govern statutory audit in European countries provides the opportunity to analyse how audit regulation affects audit fees. This study is the first to analyse empirically the joint effect of audit regulation and auditor expertise on audit fees for the institutional setting of 14 European countries by using a sample of 4,293 European firms for the period from 2003 to 2011. I analyse four attributes of audit regulation, namely terms for annual renewal of the mandate, nature of the auditors’ liability, whether the state requires joint audits and whether it imposes restrictions on the provision of non-audit services. The main results show that using an industry s…

This study asks about the role of transparency in the context of commercial hybrid content. Through theoretical consideration as well as interviews of representatives of public relations and marketing communication associations and agencies in Finland, the article presents the practitioners’ perceptions and experiences using the literature on transparency. Knowledge sharing and subsidiary R&D mandate development: A matter of dual embeddedness
2014
Sharing knowledge across borders has proven to be especially relevant to multinational corporations (MNCs). Foreign subsidiaries have become active players in these knowledge flows. However, the network effects of interacting with multiple agents on the evolution of the R&D role played by subsidiaries are still undeveloped. The present study focuses on changes in subsidiary capabilities and on the dynamic mechanisms by which their R&D role might evolve, especially, as a consequence of their interaction with a variety of knowledge networks. We examine this issue by conducting four longitudinal case studies of subsidiaries operating in Spain. Using an inductive approach to theory building, we…
Unusual business or business as usual: An investigation of meeting support requirements in multilateral diplomacy
1993
Abstract The concept of supporting meetings at the same time and at the same place with computers raises the problem of how salient features of group behaviors are understood in meetings. In this paper we critically examine some aspects of meeting behaviors. We point out that the idea of small, cohesive business teams is not necessarily a valid starting point in thinking of all meeting support. In particular, beliefs that relate to user aspects, group features such as composition, structure and protocols, and task characteristics such as nature, importance, and goals in meetings may need deliberation in many group decision support systems (GDSS) interventions. To demonstrate the credibility…
Pandemia e vaccinazione dei lavoratori nello scenario comparato
2022
The essay analyses Covid-19 workers’ vaccinations in the Italian, Spanish, French, and US legal frameworks. By using the function of cultural orientation of comparative method, the work highlights that in Southern-Europe workers’ vaccination may be mandated by the legislator with the aim to promote collective health. By the contrary the US system, centred on the freedom of economic initiative, allows employer-mandated vaccinations in lack of specific legislation. Il saggio analizza in chiave comparata la vaccinazione del lavoratore contro il virus Sars-Covid 19 negli ordinamenti italiano, spagnolo, francese e statunitense. Nel privilegiare la funzione di orientamento culturale della compara…
Partiti e gruppi parlamentari nell'ordinamento spagnolo
2005
This volume constitutes the natural development of the theoretical conclusions the author has reached in a previous publication, dedicated to the transition from the prohibition on a mandate to party mandate. The analysis of the provisions of the Spanish legal system on the subject of parliamentary parties and groups, and in particular of those aimed at countering the phenomenon of parliamentary hyper-mobility, confirms that it is possible to derive from traditional principles on political representation meanings that are more consistent with the peculiar role played by parties in current representative democracies, without thereby undermining their foundations. Hence the need to define leg…
The Spanish Parliament and Brexit
2019
In the Spanish Parliament, European affairs are dealt with in a joint committee made up of representatives of the Congress and the Senate. This committee is in charge of controlling the Government in matters related to the European Union; it is also the body in charge of controlling the Union’s compliance with the principle of subsidiarity. Until very recently, the Spanish Parliament’s control was not very demanding due mainly to three factors: first, because the current legislation obliges the Government only to inform the Cortes about its activities within the European Council and the Council, but does not allow the Cortes to give the Government a compulsory negotiating mandate; second, b…
