Overextension of filling material into the mandibular canal after root treatment in the lower jaw is a rare but serious complication. Mechanical compression, chemical neurotoxicity and local infection may cause irreversible nerve damage. A report on 11 patients with neurological complaints of the inferior alveolar nerve after endodontic treatment is summarised. The neurological findings are dominated by hypaesthesia and dysaesthesia. Half of the patients reported pain. Hyperaesthesia is found much more rarely. Nearly all the patients had a combination of one or more symptoms. Objective This study evaluated the efficacy of a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), including hypnosis, in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) with muscular diagnosis. Study Design Seventy-two patients (65 women and 7 men with an average age of 39 years) were selected according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for TMD, and assigned to the experimental group (n = 41), receiving the 6-session CBT program, and the control group (n = 31). The definition of neuropathic pain has recently been revised by an expert committee of the Neuropathic Pain Special Interest Group of the International Association for the Study of Pain (NeuPSIG) as "pain arising as direct consequence of a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory system," and a grading system of "definite," "probable," and "possible" neuropathic pain has been introduced. During the period from 1969 to 1977 11 cases of myxoma or myxofibroma in the jaw region have been treated at the Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic of the University of Mainz. Various kinds of diagnostic problems are discussed. We observed, inter alia, rapid tumour growth and a imitative dynamics in the radiographs, giving rise to a suspicion of malignancy in some cases. The locally infiltrative type of growth of myxomas must be taken into account during therapy, since insufficiently radical management is liable to be followed by a recurrence.

Abstract Infected osteoradionecrosis (IORN) is one of the major complications of oral cancer radiotherapy. Recent studies showed a high prevalence of Actinomyces in IORN. In this study, the clinical follow up of IORN patients ( n = 25; 20 male, 5 female) with regard to Actinomyces detection in the mandible was analyzed. Within 1.6–119 months of follow up, disease control was achieved in almost 90% of the patients with Actinomyces -negative bone biopsies, but only in 25% of the Actinomyces -positive group.
