Abstract Background The excess of manganese (Mn) causes severe deleterious effects in the central nervous system, and the developing brain is especially sensitive to Mn overload. However, results of prospective studies regarding Mn neurodevelopmental effects remain inconclusive. We present the magneto-structural correlations for two novel discrete cyano-bridged assemblies based on cationic complexes of manganese(II) with diimine ligands and octacyanotungstate(V) ions. Photodegradation of organic compounds in water solutions by means of economically advantageous and environment-friendly processes is a topic of growing interest. In recent years a great attention has been devoted to TiO2-based photocatalysts for the oxidative degradation of various organic pollutants. In this context, we have prepared new photo-catalytic polycrystalline TiO2 systems impregnated with sensitizers, i.e., copper, iron or manganese porphyrins, and investigated their photoactivity for 4-nitrophenol oxidation compared with that of bare TiO2. Manganese is one of the most abundant metals present in nature in trace amounts, which is accumulated and utilized by all forms of life. It plays a multitude of biological roles, but exposure of cells/organisms to high levels causes toxicity. Ftalocyjaniny to organiczne związki chemiczne, które uzyskuje się jedynie na drodze syntezy chemicznej. Stanowią one jednak analogi strukturalne porfiryn, które naturalnie występują w przyrodzie, m.in. w takich cząsteczkach jak witamina B12 czy chlorofil. Obszerne badania dotyczące kompleksów ftalocyjanin wynikają z budowy tych związków, ponieważ cząsteczkę ftalocyjaniny można modyfikować na bardzo wiele sposobów.
