The Burden of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Disease in Pre-Term Infants

This mini-review summarises the risk factors for acquiring Respiratory Syncitial Virus (RSV) infection, and describes the harmful effects of the infection in pre-term infants. Moreover, theoretical considerations are discussed for the prevention of RSV infection in high-risk infant categories, such as pre-term infants. Background: Neonates positive for RSV are more prone to severe infection than neonates infected with other common respiratory viruses. Despite RSV infection being more common in late neonates than in early ones, pre-term infants ≤ 35 wk gestational age (GA) are at high risk for developing severe RSV disease. Stability of vacuolar betaxanthin pigments in juices from Moroccan yellow Opuntia ficus indica fruits

Pigment stability of yellow juices prepared from Moroccan cactus pear (Opuntia ficus indica) was determined as a function of temperature and pH. The experiments were carried out at temperatures ranging from 80 to 100 °C with juices at pH 3.5, 5 and 6.5. The degree of pigment retention decreased when the temperature increased. The degradation constant rates were determined for thermal degradation rates of pseudo-first order. The Arrhenius plot obtained for the degradation of betaxanthin from the yellow fruits was not linear. Regardless of the temperature treatment, the lowest degradation was obtained for pH 5. Quality and volatile compounds in red wine at different degrees of dealcoholization by membrane process

This study investigated the effect of different degrees of dealcoholization on volatile compounds, phenols and sensory characteristics of red wine (cv. Montepulciano d’Abruzzo). The wine with an initial alcohol content of 13.2% v/v was partially dealcoholized by membrane process with a decrease of alcohol degree as follows: − 4.9; − 6.3; − 7.8, − 9.2 and − 10.5% v/v. Osmotic distillation has proved effective in preserving a satisfactory odorous profile, as samples with an alcohol residue of 8.3% v/v (− 4.9%) and 6.9% v/v (− 6.3%) showed good esters retention: more than 84% and 82%, respectively. In this paper a group of participants of the 12th European Summer Institute which took place in Tenerife, Spain in June 1995 present their views on the state of the art and the future trends in Locational Analysis. The issues discussed include modeling aspects in discrete Location Theory, the influence of the distance function, the relation between discrete, network and continuous location, heuristic techniques, the state of technology and undesirable facility location. Some general questions are stated regarding the applicability of location models, promising research directions and the way technology affects the development of solution techniques.

Abstract The soft-clustered vehicle-routing problem (SoftCluVRP) extends the classical capacitated vehicle-routing problem by one additional constraint: The customers are partitioned into clusters and feasible routes must respect the soft-cluster constraint, that is, all customers of the same cluster must be served by the same vehicle. Abstract This paper proposes models and algorithms for the pickup and delivery vehicle routing problem with time windows and multiple stacks. Each stack is rear-loaded and is operated in a last-in-first-out (LIFO) fashion, meaning that when an item is picked up, it is positioned at the rear of a stack. An item can only be delivered if it is in that position. This problem arises in the transportation of heavy or dangerous material where unnecessary handling should be avoided, such as in the transportation of cars between car dealers and the transportation of livestock from farms to slaughterhouses. Abstract The glass cutting problem proposed by Saint Gobain for the 2018 ROADEF challenge includes some specific constraints that prevent the direct application of procedures developed for the standard cutting problem.
