Coupled fixed point results in cone metric spaces for -compatible mappings
2011
In this paper, we introduce the concepts of -compatible mappings, b-coupled coincidence point and b-common coupled fixed point for mappings F, G : X × X → X, where (X, d) is a cone metric space. We establish b-coupled coincidence and b-common coupled fixed point theorems in such spaces. The presented theorems generalize and extend several well-known comparable results in the literature, in particular the recent results of Abbas et al. [Appl. Math. Comput. 217, 195-202 (2010)]. Some examples are given to illustrate our obtained results. An application to the study of existence of solutions for a system of non-linear integral equations is also considered. 2010 Mathematics Subject Classificati…

Some contributions in disease mapping modeling
2020
Developing the "Choosing Health" Digital Weight Loss and Maintenance Intervention: Intervention Mapping Study
2022
Background Digital health promotion programs tailored to the individual are a potential cost-effective and scalable solution to enable self-management and provide support to people with excess body weight. However, solutions that are widely accessible, personalized, and theory- and evidence-based are still limited. Objective This study aimed to develop a digital behavior change program, Choosing Health, that could identify modifiable predictors of weight loss and maintenance for each individual and use these to provide tailored support. Methods We applied an Intervention Mapping protocol to design the program. This systematic approach to develop theory- and evidence-based health promotion …

In vivo assembly of chromatin on pBR322 sequences cloned into yeast plasmids
1989
Abstract In order to study the in vivo assembly of chromatin on prokaryotic DNA templates, we have transformed yeast cells with plasmids pAJ50 and pRB58, which contain pBR322 sequences. In both cases nucleosomes are assembled in vivo on pBR322 DNA, although the nucleosomes are not homogeneous in size. To explore whether there is any preference for nucleosome assembly along pBR322 sequences, we have used an indirect end labeling method. The results indicate that most nucleosomes are placed at random on pBR322, although the probability for histone octamers to interact with some short regions is somewhat reduced. These regions coincide with sequences in which the frequency distribution of nucl…

Visible-NIR reflectance spectroscopy and manifold learning methods applied to the detection of fungal infections on citrus fruit
2015
Abstract The development of systems for automatically detecting decay in citrus fruit during quality control is still a challenge for the citrus industry. The feasibility of reflectance spectroscopy in the visible and near infrared (NIR) regions was evaluated for the automatic detection of the early symptoms of decay caused by Penicillium digitatum fungus in citrus fruit. Reflectance spectra of sound and decaying surface parts of mandarins cv. ‘Clemenvilla’ were acquired in two different spectral regions, from 650 nm to 1050 nm (visible–NIR) and from 1000 nm to 1700 nm (NIR), pointing to significant differences in spectra between sound and decaying skin for both spectral ranges. Three diffe…
Directive local color transfer based on dynamic look-up table
2019
Abstract Color transfer in image processing usually suffers from misleading color mapping and loss of details. This paper presents a novel directive local color transfer method based on dynamic look-up table (D-DLT) to solve these problems in two steps. First, a directive mapping between the source and the reference image is established based on the salient detection and the color clusters to obtain directive color transfer intention. Then, dynamic look-up tables are created according to the color clusters to preserve the details, which can suppress pseudo contours and avoid detail loss. Subjective and objective assessments are presented to verify the feasibility and the availability of the…
AI-enabled adaptive learning systems: A systematic mapping of the literature
2021
Abstract Mobile internet, cloud computing, big data technologies, and significant breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have all transformed education. In recent years, there has been an emergence of more advanced AI-enabled learning systems, which are gaining traction due to their ability to deliver learning content and adapt to the individual needs of students. Yet, even though these contemporary learning systems are useful educational platforms that meet students’ needs, there is still a low number of implemented systems designed to address the concerns and problems faced by many students. Based on this perspective, a systematic mapping of the literature on AI-enabled adaptive le…
